Imam Ridha(as) shrine on the birth of Lady Ma'suma, his sister.
~Book 1, part 6~
The couplets are self-explanatory and we realize the truth of it upon reflection. For Rumi, all virtual love (ishq majazi) is an image of real love (ishq haqiqi) which is between the divine beloved. Whether the former or the latter, the experience of love is understood only when experienced and not through explication. Ironically, the whole Masnavi tries to do that very thing.
~Gulistan, Bab 1, Hikayat 12~
Sa’di’s introduction to the couplets:
“One of the oppressive Persian kings asked, what is the best act of worship? He [The Shaykh] said: for you the mid-day nap so that you take a break from your oppression.”
Sa’di was known for his wise ethical poetry in advising and cautioning rulers and people of power. The murder of #GeorgeFloyd by police officers whose job is “to serve and protect”, and the higher systems of power that allow these recurring events, is the type of oppression that Sa’di intends here.
~Divan-i Shams, Ghazal 350~ Eid Mubarak to the Muslim ummah! These couplets place eid in the context of the lover and the beloved. The beloved may curse and insult, but it does not mean that they don't love you. Likewise, God gives us trials as in the struggle of fasting, but ends it with a day of joy. He gives us trials in life, but only to make us stronger or save us from greater tribulation. I hope you like this poem and translation.
It's my first attempt at iambic pentameter...not sure if I did it right~

Salam, I was reading through some of your posts and at a part it was written "lanat on the lower self", as in May Allah(SWT) remove His Mercy from the lower self, but then this is just some thinking, are humans not in need of Mercy to get out of this lower self state...
Alaykum Salam, you are right. I didn’t mean it in that sense. The lower self is not inherently evil. It is evil when our higher self(the aql) becomes subservient to it. That is what I was cursing. And my intention by cursing, is understanding that this lower nafs and identifying with it is the root of our problems.
Jazakallah kheiran for your response. may Allah (swt) continue protecting and guiding you in the path of tawheed.
Ameen, Ameen, Ameen. feel free to message off anon.
actually I feel like what I've always been missing in my live has been the presence of such people, especially that of a mentor and a teacher.. how do I find such individuals?
It’s not really up to us to “find them”, we can only seek them. They are the means to God, so seek God and he will bring them into your life. It helps if you decrease your keeping company with those that don’t benefit you and you don’t benefit and ask God to replace old friends with new friends, better friends, his friends. You should also know that we are in the last age. The friends of God are very few in number, and this should cause a sense of longing in you...

you're very inspiring! what advice do you have for a fellow traveler in the path of the Beloved?
I’m happy that you have derived inspiration from my posts. Though that says more about you than about me. seek the company of the lovers and knowers, stay away from lovers who are not knowers, and knowers who are not lovers, and definitely those who are neither.
Me: I just feel...like I Want to be...more
Teacher: silent
Teacher: that's easy, if you want to be more, just be less!
