Instagram is such a bizarre concept the more I think about its place in our culture today. People over-share every aspect of their lives. Our lives are reduced to commodities. I follow people that legitimately post three to five photos a day and they baffle me. I’m slowly wondering why I myself feed into the lies of this degenerative app. I mean, you’re sharing these very forced moments of your life for other people, so that you can come across as “travelled”, “wealthy”, “fashionable”, “pretty”, “intellectual”… People are being praised for their subtle arrogance. It’s scary as hell. You’re not really gaining anything truly beneficial from posting these photos, you’re lying to yourself and telling yourself you “belong” in this world where happiness is gauged by how much you accumulate, whether that’s social acclaim or whatever or even the way you’re perceived. Your worth is measured by the number of people that supposedly care about your life. Instagram really just feeds our egos and some people really need to take it down a notch. Everyone is so fake and want to be seen as genuine. The world has become so confusing and the last thing we need is to be distracted by false hopes and ideals.
