Chapter 1
Aki never said goodbye to Yusei as she rode away from him towards the future she was determined to make for herself. In the years that followed, it was easy to check up on Leo, Crow, and Jack. They were all over the news, winning tournaments and grand prixs, each one carving out a name for themselves. Luna called every couple of days for schoolwork and advice. For Yusei, who decided to stop dueling and stay in New Domino City, over the course of eight years they barely saw each other and although it would have been nicer to video call, their busy schedules and the time zone difference made it difficult. Instead they managed to send each other more than just a few letters. She told him about her medical program, the patients she met, and how much she missed him and the others. Yusei wrote back about his work with Ener-D, the progress Neo Domino City was making, and how much he missed her and the others as well.
Akiza smiled as she read his latest letter, her smile faltering only as she read the end. In his neat, straight handwriting was written, “Eternally Yours, Yusei.” Her heart hammered in her chest, unable to believe what she had read. Did Yusei really feel the same way for her as she had for him? She wrote back about a particularly difficult patient she had to deal with and the advancement of medical technology. With her heart still beating hard in her chest, she signed “Forever and Always Yours, Akiza.” The next letter Yusei sent, it simply said, “Love, Yusei.” That night, Aki decided it was time to come home.
Neo Domino City had changed, just as Yusei had described in his letters, pushing itself forward towards the future of riding duels, but there was still a sense of nostalgia within Akiza. This was where she belonged, where she had left her heart all those years ago. She hadn’t told anyone of her return, not even her parents. Sliding her key into the door, she stepped foot into the house that had been cleansed of the bad memories of loneliness and heartache, replaced by love, laughter, and the warmth of family. “Mom. Dad. I’m home.”

Yusei hung up his lab coat, ready to go home. He nodded as each of his colleagues bid him goodbye. The sky was red as the sun was beginning to set as he rode on his motorcycle back to the garage. Along the way, he passed by posters of Jack, Crow and Leo plastered across the city, each one advertising a different product. Jack had finally achieved his dream of endorsing the “Red Dragon Archfiend” cup ramen, his favorite, Yusei laughed to himself.
There was a bundle of mail in front of the door, most of them offers to join tournaments along with a few bills. He threw them onto the table. He could have moved out years ago, working as a scientist paid handsomely, but some of his best memories were made here and there were days when he thought he could still hear Crow and Jack arguing over the latter having to get a job or see Bruno hunched over the computer working on a new engine design. It was times like this his heart ached to see everyone again. The bittersweet farewell between them all flashed through his mind; he didn’t want them to go, but he couldn’t hold them back either, not when they had each made up their minds about their own dreams.
“I thought I’d find you here,” a voice behind him said. Yusei turned around and his eyes widened. Akiza was standing by the garage door. She smiled shyly. She was just as beautiful as he remembered her. Her magenta hair, almond colored eyes, and her smile. He still hadn’t seen a prettier smile than hers.
“I’m back, Yusei,” she said. He smiled back at her and held his arms open. She threw herself at him and he caught her easily, burying his face in her hair.
