My belly feels heavy and my feet are slightly apart as I waddle down the trail a few minutes away from my house. During the past week, the baby still hasn’t dropped and was now a full eight days past her due date. “Come on sweetie…” I gently rub my large belly, trying to make labor progress. I’d been eating spicy foods, tried walking and played with myself more than once a day. She was stubborn though and wouldn’t budge. I glance around as I walk and see the trees in full bloom as it’s the end of July and a hot July too. The only dress that fits now is a blue cotton sundress which is tight around my belly, sticking to my legs. I pull the fabric, feeling hot after having walked almost a mile and a half. “Mmmh….” I moan softly, feeling a small pain wash over me. “Good…” I ride the pain, rubbing the sides of my belly, urging labor to begin. Turning around, I start to walk back to my car, a hand on my back to support myself. “Ooooh…” My legs stop as it gets stronger and I feel a rush of hot fluid pour between my legs. “Mmmmh…already?!” I cry out, feeling another contraction coming fast. I brace myself, putting my hands on my legs and bending slightly. “Oooohhhh!” The contractions getting worse, I moan out, begging for someone to hear me. The sun beats down and once the contraction passes, I try walking again.  After walking for about three minutes, I start to feel an intense low pressure in my hips and stop, crying out as my large belly tightens, another contraction washing over me. “Ooooooohh!!! Oooh god…heee hooo…” I try and breathe through it but most of it comes out as moaning. I look around quickly, sure now that I won’t make it to the car. As the contraction passes, I stand straight and waddle my way to a nearby tree just off the trail.  "Mmh…Mmh…now you wanna come huh?“ I rub my belly in slow circles. Another contraction hits and both hands grab the tree, leaning a bit as my hips away gently. “Mmmh ooooooh ooooh!!! Not now…not now…” I groan and let it pass. Carefully I sink down and put my back against the tree. I pull up my dress and slide my panties down. “Mmmh…” My belly contracts again as I feel my overdue baby’s large head push against my cervix. “Aaaahhhh aahhhh!”  I move a hand past my belly and gently thrust two fingers inside myself. My fingers don’t feel a head yet and I wonder if I’m fully dilated or not. My breathing gets heavy as I start to panic. “Mmmh oooh god…someone help!!!” I cry out, hearing the desperation in my voice. My eyes widen as I feel another contraction and the urge to push. “Aaaaaahhhhhh!! Ooooh Ooohhh!” My legs part and my hands massage my inner thighs, wanting the pain to stop. “You’re okay…okay…you can do this, you’re fine.” I try to calm myself down. “Okay…okay next one push…” I tell myself, starting to feel it build. “Oooh…oooh…” I feel my belly tighten and listen to my body. My chin goes to my chest and I push, leaning over my belly. “Uuuuuurrghhhhhhh!!!” I groan loudly, feeling the head pressing against my cervix but not entering it. “Come on! Mmmmh come on baby!” I try to coax the baby out. My body becomes tired of the position and I move onto my hands and knees, gently swaying from front to back against my calves. “Hehhee hoooo hee hee hooo…” I breathe deeply, the sun beginning to move behind some clouds, making my sigh. “Mmh shade…” I say softly, looking around again, seeing that nobody is walking today. I groan feeling another contraction and sway gently again. “Mmmh….uurrgghhhh!!!” I push, focusing all of my energy down to birth this baby. “Come on…come on!” I cry out, feeling the head just entering my birth canal. Changing positions again, I let my back rest against the tree, bringing myself into a deep squat. “Aah…mh.” My breath quickens and gravity has helped because I feel another intense urge to push. “Uuurgggghhhh!!!” My legs shake, my hands holding them and trying to keep my balance at the same time. “Aaaarrrghhhhh!!!” I release the push and put two fingers inside myself again, balancing with the other hand. “Mmmh…mmhhh…” I moan, feeling my inner walls slick and wet. My fingertips brush the baby’s head and I smile softly, glad to be making some progress. I keep my fingers inside a moment, gently massaging down my walls. “Mmmh…oooh…” Starting to feel another contraction, I take then out, my hands moving to my legs again. “Let it build…let it build…” I tell myself and push as it peaks. “Oooooh arrrghhhhhhh!” My legs shake with effort and my face is bright red. “Uuuughhhhh!” I let out a cry, releasing the push. “Someone help!” I call out, but again no one hears me. I’m birthing this baby alone. “Hehhee hoooo…” I pant softly, beginning to feel a bulge and the shoulders passing through my cervix. “Mmh that’s it….mommas right here.” I coax the baby down, my hands rubbing big circles on my descending belly. Feeling another contraction build I moan loudly. “Push…” I tell myself as my body tightens around my belly, pushing hard to get this big baby out. “Aaaarggghhhhhhhh!” “Aaah Ahhh… Heehee hoooo…” My body relaxes a moment and I look between my legs and see my labia pushed out, bulging incredibly far out of me. “Mmmh oooh god…” I moan, my body pushing again as another contraction hits. “Uurrgghhhhh!” I cry out, one hand reaching down to feel my labia push out a bit farther, then my lips slowly parting. “Aaaaarghhhh ahh, aahhhh…” I release the push, my lips closing. “Mmmh come on….” My body rests a few moments before the next contraction hits and I start pushing again. “Uuurrrghhhhh!!!” My legs shake with effort, desperate to get this baby out. My lips part as the head comes down, a slow crown forming. “Heee heee hooo…Aaaahh…” I lean my head down, pushing and watching as the head starts moving out of me. “Uurrgghhhhh! Ooooh come on…” I rub the under curve of my belly and moan softly. I cry out softly, feeling a strong burning sensation. “Aaahh Ahhh…heee hooo heee…” I pant it out, pushing again and feeling the forehead slide through my lips. “Aaarrrghhhh!!!!” My lips are red hot and my legs shake. Unable to squat any longer, I sit with my legs bent, angling my bottom up. I feel myself being stretched impossibly and blow air out of my cheeks. “Hoooo hoooo…” With another hard push, I feel the head slip through my labia, popping out along with a rush of fluid. “Aaah…aaahh…” My hands reach down between my legs, feeling the cantaloupe shaped head. “Mmh…Mmmh good, push again…” I tell myself, holding the babies head. “Uuurrrghhh!!!” I give a hard push on the next contraction and feel the shoulders slipping through, stretching me so far. “Gahhhhh hhaaaaahhh mmmmh…” I try and pant through it, the pain incredibly strong. “Push….” I urge myself, leaning into another push, my hands supporting the baby as her shoulders are born. “Good good job mmhh…” I reward myself with a few moments of rest before giving another hard push and feeling her body slip into my hands. I act quickly, clearing her nose and mouth, letting her cry. Holding her in my arms, I gently rock her pink body back and forth. “Aaahh…you’re okay…Mmh thank god you’re okay.” I lean her against my belly, the umbilical cord still attaching us. Off in the distance, I hear footsteps and a young looking man, taking a jog, stops and runs over, pulling out his cellphone. “Oh my god lady, are you alright?!” He asks concerned and dials 911. “Yeah…we’re okay…we’re just fine.” I smile down at my newborn daughter.
