one time I went over to a friend's house and their housemate was making paper in the living room, and we saw this big tub full of water they were using to dissolve old scrap paper into a slurry, and everyone was immediately like "oh, you need scrap paper?" and started turning out their jacket pockets and producing expired coupons and bus tickets and crumpled receipts and old shopping lists and whatever else they'd been carrying round with them for no good reason, and passing it all to the paper-making housemate to make sure it was suitable before it got torn up and dropped into the tub, while people took turns stirring the slurry with a big wooden stick. it was strangely ritualistic, like presenting an offering to some kind of temple elder for inspection before placing it in a watery shrine to be devoured and reformed. pulp for the pulp god.

Imagine being a random student at Smallville High at the same time as Clark Kent and telling everyone about it years later. Everyone else has maybe one good high school story and you have like fifty. Freshman year, your spring formal got broken up by an EF 4ish tornado and lots of the town is destroyed. The senior football quarterback joined the military and when he came back, it was just that crazy shapeshifter girl who tried to kill someone last year and turns out he had actually died overseas. Half the baseball team gets suspended for doing drugs with meteor rocks and then they go to prison for like robbery and attempted murder and the rest of the season is cancelled. That mild mannered Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent disappeared two summers in a row and was just…missing and there were county wide searches for him by the police each time but when the school year came round he just showed up again and gave no explanation for anything. A couple of freshmen students got superpowers and then immediately became serial killers. One girl took the class president election so seriously she put like two people in the hospital and tried to go after a third (yeah, it was that Clark Kent guy again). Senior prom was almost cut short by the ghost of a recently deceased student possessing people and trying to blow up the school, and one of those people was the prom queen and another was Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent! You swear you’re not making this up! And then your graduation was cut short because right in the middle the military showed up and said there would be another meteor shower and then there WAS another meteor shower…

And just…nobody is willing to believe them. What do you mean one student tried to kill another with an axe in the hallways and they just got suspended and no one ever talked about it again? what do you mean, the football coach was bullying kids with super control over fire?

#i like to imagine they tell these stories with a totally straight face as if it's just boring high school stuff #like they can't understand why everyone thinks they're exaggerating bc come on guys #didn't a ton of people at your high school die or disappear under mysterious circumstances?#that's just what small towns are like idk why you're making such a big thing of it 🤷‍♀️#smallville

i don’t think we talk enough about the fact that agent may’s mom was a spy when may was younger. like the impact that probably had on may to join shield and fight for the world from the shadows like her mom did?? i wish we could see more of may and her mom’s dynamic too bc they seem to butt heads a lot, but it’s probably bc they are so similar right??
