my hot take today is that transphobic/trans exclusionary radical feminists (TERFs) are just a loud minority.
yes, the TIRF community is VERY small, but only because it's a community specifically designated to be an anti-TEEF radical feminist space. and TERFs are already a minority inside of a minority. of course the anti-sub-subculture movement is going to be small.
offline, ordinary radical feminists aren't violently transphobic. offline, ordinary radical feminists aren't just.... normal people with stronger morals
the violent transphobic """feminists""" we see on tumblr and twitter truly are not a majority, not in the slightest. they're horrible, but they are not, by any means, ordinary radfeminists.
most transphobes are just transphobes, not TERFs, because being a trans-exclusionary radical feminist is an oxymoron. - you cannot support female liberation and women's rights (as two SEPARATE concepts, because sex β gender) without supporting ALL female people and ALL women. - and the amount of people that try to somehow incorporate radfeminism into bigotry are far fewer than the people who are JUST transphobes, and the reason we see so many TERFs is because we're just seeing transphobes adopt the "radical feminist" label to justify their bigotry
