Heroine of the day - Sally McNeil

Born September 30, 1960 is an American former sergeant, professional female bodybuilder and muscle worship practitioner, who was convicted for the murder of her husband Ray McNeil, a Mr. Olympia competitor.

Her husband Ray has been physically and mentally abusing her for years, cheating on her as well. He liked to choke her, and did it multiple times during their relationship. On February 14th 1995, when he attacked her again, she had enough and she shot him. I say GOOD FOR HER.

But obviously the misogynistic society labeled her as an aggressive bully. Just because she was extremely strong physically, people didn't believe that she could be a victim of domestic violence. Even though a professional psychologist evaluated her and confirmed that she was abused, the absolute asshole of a prosecutor named Dan Goldstein kept denying this fact. He thought that a victim should be a perfect, helpless, delicate woman and Sally wasn't like this. So he did everything he could to destroy her in court and she ended up spending 25 years in prison for murder.

When watching a documentary about her (Netflix's Killer Sally) there are a couple of things worth noticing.

Sally's children confirmed that she was abused and they were 100% on her side. They SAW what was happening and knew she didn't have a choice.

As for Ray, his friends who are in the documentary are straight up ridiculous. One man said (with a smile on his face!) that Ray once gouged out some man's eyes. Then he proceeded to describe Ray as a gentle, harmless giant. And THEN he said how aggressive and dangerous Sally was 🤡 Ray's friends also found it very entertaining that he cheated on Sally. They were smiling while talking about it. They didn't give a single fuck about how hurt this woman was. And they wouldn't care if it was Ray who killed her.

Sally was not only a victim of domestic abuse. She's also a victim of misogyny, which robbed her of 25 years of her life.

Georgia: I've killed three men, and all the stuff the media said about me is true.

Because abandoning someone at their lowest isn’t “reasonable.” It’s cowardice.

Paul didn’t make good choices.

He had good choices.

Options. Privilege. Reputation.

He walked into Georgia’s world with all the advantages and ran the second it stopped serving him.

Georgia was losing everything.

Her kids were taken by CPS.

She was being framed in the court of public opinion.

She was staring life in prison in the face.

She needed Paul.

Not as a savior but as a shield.

And he left.

Let’s be clear:

Paul didn’t just walk away emotionally.

He walked out physically and publicly.

In front of the town. In front of the cameras.

In front of Georgia’s children.

He humiliated her when she had nothing left.

Yes, Georgia lied about being pregnant.

But it wasn’t to be malicious or cunning.

It was a survival tactic.

She was desperate. She was cornered.

She was trying to protect what little she had left.

Paul’s response?

He nearly hit her.

He called her “the most selfish person he’s ever met.”

He told her she’d go to prison.

He said her kids would be better off without her.

Let that sink in.

Paul isn't evil.

But he is a coward.

He doesn’t know how to love what he can’t control.

He doesn’t know how to show up when things get real.

He wanted Georgia to be pretty, polished, and manageable.

Not human.

And here’s what really infuriates me:

The world still sees him as the victim.

People excuse Paul because he looks respectable.

They condemn Georgia because she’s chaotic.

But here’s the truth:

Paul never loved Georgia.

He loved the idea of her.

Georgia was never perfect.

But she’s a mother who fought like hell.

Paul didn’t want to get dirty.

So he threw her away.

Don’t call that mature.

Don’t call that noble.

Call it what it is: a betrayal.

A lot of people say the writers “ruined” Paul. I disagree. They made one of the best choices of the season.

They didn’t ruin him they revealed him.

Paul was never a hero. He was just a man who looked like one until the mask fell off.

Whether it was intentional from the start or something that evolved, it worked. It gave the story teeth. It showed us what happens when women like Georgia put their trust in image over substance and it hurt, because it was real.

I'm glad they didn’t protect Paul.

Because men like him get protected enough in real life.

Stop defending Paul.

He’s not a good man.

He liked the idea of her. He married knowing there was secrets and that Georgia was an extremely damaged traumatised person who often feels like she needs to go to the extreme. Paul kept saying that was the part he loved most about her and wanted to protect her. Begging to know everything about her that she clearly doesn’t like talking about. Then runs when she’s publicly humiliated with that information that Paul wants to know so much??

Paul was always bad if he was so easily able to cut and run when he got the information he wanted, the fact that Georgia never felt comfortable telling him the full truth tells me Paul was never trustworthy.

Before anyone says ‘she faked a pregnancy’, Georgia has always been about extreme survival tactic, Paul knows this. And he was about to leave her when she needed him most. Not saying she didn’t do anything bad here but when you compare it to two murders it’s not that bad.

The revelation that Paul could hit Georgia was the final nail in the coffin of their relationship. And so heartbreakingly realistic. Georgia would always be scared of him and running from him and the truth.

Also Paul blaming Nick for everything he did as if he can’t think of himself is pathetic. I’m sure that Georgia’s pregnancy is his and Georgia is going to try her best to hide that (which won’t work, maybe because he investigates or she need his help getting rid of her parents and possibly their interest in her new baby). And of course I wonder what will the possibility of Georgia and Paul having a chance together will affect Georgia’s and Joe’s new relationship. I wonder if Paul will now want to stay married to Georgia and fight the divorce he ironically asked for only to find out the baby is Joe’s.
