literally sputtered out EXCUSE ME WHAT? and slammed pause

......i did not see this coming. he's a lot more goopy over finch (and whenever things come up about what changed etc he's talking about finch finding him, giving him a purpose) and that's obviously canonically platonic, but like. i love carter and her relationship with him (heck i have a tag for it) and finch, but feeling totally sucker punched that we're having a ... romantic?? moment right now??? she changed his mind about killing himself? she changed him? what??

This was such a ridiculous scene that was completely pulled out of the writers' asses and ruined the great friendship that the previous seasons had built up between John and Joss

Joss was such an amazing badass character and adding this fake romanticism out of the blue feels like it cheapens her whole image

What was the motivation even????? Did the writers think her death wouldn't hit hard enough unless a male character suddenly cared about her romantically? Were they lazily trying to last-minute cater to some conservative part of viewers who get bored by a show unless there's some hetero action between the main characters?

It's just so unbelievably stupid and Joss' character deserved better
