Okay love I understand where you’re coming from. Yes the rainbow is a natural phenomenon and no one can really own it right? But if we want to follow that logic we can say the same thing about everything ever. The rainbow does hold meaning to a lot of LGBTQ+ people because it represents our unity. I am personally a part of the LGBTQ+ community and live in a country where that is illegal. When i see people hold up the pride flag it makes me feel safer, it gets me out of this bubble and shows me the rest of the world isn’t like this. Universally, bc of the history, the rainbow holds a lot of meaning for the LGBTQ+ community bc it’s a sign of unity. To take something that means so much to community of thousands and thousands of people and make it your own is very harmful. Maybe this person had good intentions, maybe they didn’t think it through, we’re all capable of mistakes but it’s important to have a conversation about these things so that we can all be aware of them.
