Contentment is a sweet, inward heart-thing. It is the work of the Spirit indoors.

The blood of Jesus! Sin dies at its presence, death ceases to be death: heaven's gates are opened. The blood of Jesus! We shall march on, conquering and to conquer, so long as we can trust its power!

But God, instead of demanding a ransom from us, pays it Himself...Only at the cross do we discover how much it cost God to redeem us "from the realm of the dead."

Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for He is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked. You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.

Why is condemnation so quick in our veins and compassion so sluggishly slow?

He went without comfort so you might have it. He postponed joy so you might share in it. He willingly chose isolation so you might never be alone in your hurt and sorrow.

I confess that to me also You seem not to care, to be doing nothing. That is wrong. The cross proves incontrovertibly, eternally, that You do care. I praise You and rest in You for that.
