Most interesting lit practice ever?
TED talks. Go get Netflix NOW. Oh yeah...and practice. You will never have a CSR, RPR, RMR, or any other letters after your name if you don't get off tumblr and PRACTICE.
Go. Now.
Stenogirl, CSR, RPR, RMR, PhD, etc.
(It's the internet...I can be whatever I want...)
Getting my lit on...at 200 baby!
And here's a little trick...I always use the script. I listen to audio, but I also have a written copy of the script either on my computer or printed out.
As I go through it, I highlight the parts that I can't seem to write at speed. Then I practice them. I underline phrases, and I try to pick at least ONE brief to learn every day. I have the book Brief Encounters, it's amazing, go get it right this second. It is worth every PENNY.
Good luck!
It's an hour and 55 minutes long....great endurance!! If you're a slower speed, maybe just work on names and your QA banks.
OR, read along with the transcript. If there's one thing I wish my old school had done, it was provide more examples of professional transcripts. How often do you get the audio, too?
Let me know how it goes for you!
You CANNOT do it...
Unless you practice.
Get on your machine. GO NOW.

Medical Dictation
It's important. Don't skimp on it. If your school isn't making you do it, I suggest you start doing it on your own because it will come up a LOT.
Easy/fun ways to practice: Watch House or Bones or something like that and only write the medical words. While your watching, make sure you know what they mean and have them in your dictionary.
Brief of the Day: Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury - /HRAEURPBLG
If you don't have this one yet, SHAME ON YOU!
You do actually have to practice.
Get off tumblr and onto your machine. Go. Right this second. Come back in an hour. Tumblr will still be here.
Brief of the Day - /MART : Matter
Because, really, how often do you write mart compared to matter? And mart is usually capitalized, so it needs an asterisk half the time anyway.
Brief of the Day - Baby: /BAEB

Brief of the Day - /UPBZ : Understand.
If this word is any more than a stroke in your theory, find a brief. You use it too much to stroke it out every time.
Favorite Brief Ever...
Might be /LAEURPBLG - LAIRJ - Ladies and gentlemen of the jury
The court reporter, grammar Nazi in me hates this.
New Brief: /IP - I apologize.
Definitely should have come up with that one sooner.

Anita Paul Finger Drills...
...Are awesome. They focus on all of those crazy combinations and ones you'll never think about writing, AND you use the asterisk. I don't know what theory you all write, but I think most people write the asterisk.
Very, very useful.
Coffee.
I have to be at work by 6:30 am every morning, and I thought I was going to give up coffee.
Hahahahahahaha! Oh boy...I crack myself up.
