#f: htown #a really lovely moment of the medium of film doing something to make a new experience of the play tbh.#i know a lot of orpheus/eurydice matchups have played into this moment pre-epic i where they have a little flirtatious connection #but just because of the limitations of looking at a big stage with your normal human eyes you can very easily miss that #if you're looking somewhere else or even just if you're only looking at orpheus or if they decide to not play the moment big #(like j. antonio rodriguez as i've seen elsewhere flashed a huge beautiful ''HI BABE!!!!!!!!'' smile directly at hannah whitley #and like yeah you would see that! but also that's in line with his ethos of orpheus as a very sweet naive small-town boy #and that's not always the acting choice that's correct for a given orpheus!)#but anyway the nice thing about a camera and an edited shot is that it can linger on reeve's expression let it establish let you take it in #and then jump cut to eurydice's reaction. and then you have a whole different energy to the scene of like yes the ensemble is there #but orpheus is playing this (at least initially) to eurydice.#and like ooo the way that's in conversation with the thing i said earlier about eva's eurydice wanting the song finished #because she wants to see reeve's orpheus succeed.#there's a power that moves in orpheus and he is ultimately and tragically beholden to it but just for a minute just at the outset #he can still hold and believe in ''i want to commit impossibilities For You.''#uuuggggghhhhhhhhhh me when i'm speaking and talking and sayinggggggggggggggguhhhhhhhhh.

#f: htown #okay baddie!!#post-proshot-viewing thots:#i really must say i loved. loveddddddddddddddd. what she brought of her relationship with reeve to the role this go-around.#obv it's up to the individual performer interpreting the role of eurydice how much they can perceive #the cycle in which they are trapped and how much they resist the magnetism that draws them to their given orpheus #but in this case i honestly found it so lovely how immediately eva's eurydice bought into reeve's orpheus as a person #the immediate warmth and sizzle between them! the way she interpreted some of her harsher lines toward orpheus #as a really sweet and playful tease! and tbh the way her initial desire for him to finish the song #read less as a material need (''finish the song so i can live'') and more personal (''finish the song because i want to see you succeed'')#like..............you can't eat love. but man sometimes love will have you believing that you can.

#f: htown #sorry. gently solemn flat affect unearthly orpheus and snappish wisecracking life-loving eurydice are peak. to me. to me #and like. mannnnnn. the way they brought their real-life relationship to this film. the way they never even tried to hide #their fondness for each other their magnetism toward each other the long-running and established love they bear for each other!#and it's like ohoooooooo what a way to interpret the cycle!!!#and like here's the thing. i do not actually subscribe to the ''orpheus turning back was strictly an act of love'' thing #because i think there's a lot more going on particularly the displacement of the work of liberation onto a single Hero #(individuals are not powerless in and of themselves especially considering matters of privileged demographics #and/or highly specific and relevant sets of skills HOWEVER without the collective there is no winning)#and in that reading the turn is more than anything a critique of the great man theory of history/politics #HOWMST EVER. howmst ever howmst ever. andrew hozier-byrne WAS correct actually when he said #''i'd be the immediate forgiveness in eurydice''#because like.
