Ethereal Ball 2026, Eliwood & Nils
Instinctively he wants to pull his hands away. But he fights the instinct off, knowing that the hands holding his are of a man who had earned his trust. Instead, the boy chooses to smile. To allow the happiness that welled up inside to express itself.
āLord Eliwood.ā The bard said, warmly. āItās been a while, hasnāt it?ā Truthfully he wasnāt sure how long it actually had been. Time was nebulous, with human lifespans going by in the blink of an eye. But even though time had passed, the man that stood before him he could still recognize as the same one that Lord Elbert spoke of so fondly. āI hope youāve been well.ā
Many questions lingered on his mind. He wanted to know how much time had passed, how their old allies and friends were doing.
In the end, he voiced none of them.
āI made my peace with never seeing any of you again, because I knew it was for the best, butā¦.ā To keep the dragonās gate open was to invite tragedy to Elibe all over again. He couldnāt risk the lives of the humans heād come to care about- or that of his brethren, just so they could be selfish. Thatās why he knew it was the right thing to do.
The boy cast his gaze downwards, willing the emotions cropping up inside him to not spill out, warmth pricking the corners of his eyes. His shoulders trembled lightly. āā¦Iām glad. That didnāt end up having to happen.ā
His expression brightens as he wipes his eyes with the edge of his sleeve, a light laugh escaping his lips. āSo, what brought you to this land, Lord Eliwood?ā Nils tried to shift the conversation into something a little more lighthearted, hoping that with it he could get a grip on himself, as well.
Eliwood squeezes his hands once and, perhaps sensing that he might be overstepping in his enthusiasm, releases him. "A while indeed. Enough that I've aged a few years." He smiles good naturedly and wonders how Nils perceived the time between now and then. If it had registered to him at all given his nature. He looks so much the same.
A somber note settles between them. Two friends reuniting after such a long time, no matter how it was spent. It matters not. He is happy to see him again.
Nils's light laugh sounds almost an echo of his flute playing and lifts his spirits just as much. He knows a change of topic when he sees it, and it is for the best as Eliwood does not know if he can keep his own emotions in check if they linger much longer.
"Ah, before I fully inherit the title of Marquess of Pherae, I am here to pass on my skills as a teacher. As a professor of the Golden Deer, in fact. That and, someone must be here to keep an eye on Hector." He smiles teasingly, the light dancing in his blue eyes.
He gestures toward Nils. "And yourself?"
āHas it really been a few years already?ā It was easy to forget sometimes that the flow of time worked differently for his friends than it did for him. A handful of years was nothing to a dragon, the boyās features still having the same fairness of a young teenager. That same amount of time however saw Lord Eliwood mature into a young adult, a sharpness in his features that was not yet there when they last met. āI didnāt realize. As you can see, Iām still the same as ever.ā
Despite the many emotions swirling inside him, talking to Lord Eliwood was as comfortable as ever. Nils was at ease, something he only was when with a select few people.
āOh, Lord Hector is here as well? Iāll have to find him sometime soon too, then.ā He as well was amongst those Nils trusted. āAs for me, Iāve recently joined the Blue Lion house as a student. After Ninian and I stepped through the dragons gate, we ended up in this land, although separated at first. We only just reunited here at Garreg Mach, andā¦ā His gaze shifted downwards for a moment. āI think we mustāve come here for a reason. So I decided that while Iām here I want to come to understand humanity better. Then, when we return home, I can help establish and work on relations between the humans and dragons of my world.ā
He thought back to the last words they shared, before he and Ninian stepped through the dragons gate. āI.. also want to believe in a world of co-existence. And this place has shown me it is possible.ā
So I wonāt forget
[ PHOTO-ARTIFEX ] - toaball2026 mini, Hector and Nils
Itās really impressive how much humanity has progressed with magic, Nils thought as he was holding onto a little contraption handed to him. It was just a small box, but pressing the button allowed it to create lifelike images of whatever you see in that moment.
Realizing what it could be used for, the young dragon set for himself the goal of capturing the visages of as many of his dear friends as he could. That way, even when centuries pass, he could still remember their faces clear as day. Thatās the least he could do for them.
And upon learning from Lord Eliwood that Lord Hector was here too, Nils decided to seek out the axe wielding noble. Only problem was.. that a surprising amount of people here had blue slick backs. Seriously, did that specific shade become common in the years heās been gone or something?
After making a fool of himself for what felt like the 3rd time now, the boy decided to take a break. Finding a place to sit, he let out a sigh. āHeās amongst the tallest people Iāve known. How have I not found him yetā¦?ā

Ethereal Ball 2026 / Hoshido
Although Ninian meant to attend this ball with her dear brother, she loses sight of him still at the entrance with all the hustle and bustle. Ah, well, ātis no great tragedy. All the better that he mingle with others in the absence of his tongue-tied sister... And besides, he will know where to find her.
ā On the dance floor, naturally. She wraps up a rendition of Lythosā priestly dance to applause from a few onlookers, thanking them with a smile before fleeing... In part because she wasnāt expecting to draw the eye like that, and in part because she has spotted him in the crowd.
ā Nils! ā She calls out with a dazzling smile, raising her bouquet into the air as though to wave then realizing and laughing it off, still flushed from her exertion. ā There you are... You must have greeted half the room by now, is that right? ā
Her teasing is lighthearted; and she laces her arm with his to tug him back the way she came, though of course she pauses to ask his permission first.
ā You were given orchids too, I see... How fortunate. Ninis must be smiling on us. Ah, speaking of which... Would you do me the honor of a dance, Nils? They are about to begin playing for a dance from Hoshido, if I am not mistaken... ā She is not, having danced them all. ā āTis a slow melody, and I would of course guide your step. ā
@stellaventia
When they arrived at the ball together, his (perhaps over)protective side wanted to monitor Ninian during their time here. Just to make sure no man (or woman, heās come to learn) would approach her with lecherous intentions.
Nils decided against it, however. Itās easy to forget when youāve spent so much of your life in survival mode, but they were safe here. So after a bit he drifted away from her side. After all, Ninian would likely prefer meeting people without her little brother constantly hovering around her. And despite her apparent frailty, she was so much stronger than heād ever be.
Sheād come see him when she wanted to, and that ended up being the case. āNinian!ā He greeted her back, features mirroring her own in both appearance and the way they smiled. āI wanted to, but you were just being too mesmerizing. They preferred watching you dance over talking to me.ā Nils teased back, giving a playful wink.
Naturally as she put her arm around his, he was happy to follow along. The way she smiled, laughed and teased, it was clear to him she had been enjoying herself thus far. There seemed to be a joy to her usual grace that he hadnāt gotten to see in a while.
Taking a step back had been the right move, then.
On the mention of their bouquets, he glanced at the bundle of pale blue flowers in his hand, and the similarly shaped flowers in hers. Huh, what are the odds? He wasnāt left pondering about it for long however, as Ninian invited him to dance with her.
And of course, she knew from the first note what kind of song it would be. It took a little longer for Nils to catch on. āYou really know your stuff, so you can really afford to say things with a little more confidence, you know?ā He chided her playfully. āAnd you also know Iām happy to dance with you, I always am. So, dear sister, lead the way!ā
[ REQUEST ]Ā - At the top of every hour, the band allows for any guest to come up and make specific requests, and for the extra bold, to sing and perform right along with them as your backup! Take the stage and belt your heart out or, for the more devious, pressure a friend to become the star of everyoneās next dance!
Mark had already heard the band announce their availability for song requests a few times, but he didn't have the heart to approach them about it. He didn't have anything particular in mind, anyway. He enjoyed the music they were performing, certainly, but what would be appropriate to request for such an event? As his eyes fell upon an old friend, an answer came to his mind. Showing everyone Nils's talents, that would certainly be worth doing.
It took considerable effort for Mark to squeeze his way through the throngs of people to reach the young bard. Mark was not exactly an imposing person. He was small and quiet, and even when he did speak up to try and excuse himself to slip past someone, his voice was often drowned out by the band or the clamor of the other partygoers. With so many of the attendees standing head and shoulders above him, it was difficult for Mark to keep sight of Nils as he tried to approach. By the time he finally managed it, Mark was visibly frazzled. He'd spent so long tidying his hair and putting on nice clothes, and now they were all dreadfully messed up by the crowds pressing against him. A frustrating turn of events, to be certain.
"Nils!" Mark greeted the boy excitedly, offering a friendly smile. "I didn't know you were here too. I'm surprised you're not up performing with the band. Do you think I could ask them to let you play with them? They're taking song requests, after all!"
āSir Mark!ā Nils greets him with a smile. āLikewise, Itās a nice surprise to see you!ā Heās always known his green clad friend to be more of a reserved intellectual type, after all. āLooking quite dapper too, if I might add.ā
Mark then relayed his request, one that for a moment caught Nils by surprise. āYou want me to- ā¦.Well, okay!ā It didnāt take much thought for him to agree. āI never got the chance to play for you directly, Sir Mark. If you promise to dance along, Iād be happy to play a tune or two!ā
As if sealing a deal, he plucked one of the orchids off his bouquet and held it out for the other boy to take. āWhat do you say?ā

Not something you find, but something you create
Ethereal Ball 2026, Eliwood & Nils
Nils couldnāt recall the last time he had this much fun. Chatting with fellow students, playing music and dancing along with it, eating all kinds of delicious foods.. For the longest time, he didnāt believe he could let his guard down enough to enjoy these things.
But.. Ninian was safe, and so was he. They no longer had to fear for their lives, thanks to three brave people and their steadfast allies. People Nils had come to consider near and dear to his heart.
Having taken a moment to step out and take a breather, the boy found himself looking out at the sky from the balcony in one of the monasteryās many towers. It was quiet moments like these where he wondered how all their old friends were doing. His sister mightāve been closer to them than he had been, but it was undeniable how much of an effect theyād had on him as well.
The sound of footsteps snapped him out of his thoughts. As they drew closer, at first the boy subconsciously tensed. But when their presence felt not just harmless- but familiar, Nils turned around.
Noble blue and hues of fiery red. It was just as he remembered.
His own eyes widened.

Eliwood isnāt keen on staying away from the festivities for too long. Thereās so much to take in, new people to meet, and perhaps old ones to run into if his time here so far has been any indication. But a breather is always a good idea, especially since his side is still smarting, and Eliwood decides to explore the immediate area while relishing in the quiet night air.
It feels almost a trick of the light when he sees a familiar shade of cerulean hair as clear as the sky. He stops, the click of his boots falling to a soft silence, and his breath stills.
Years ago, he had been parted from his dear friends. It was for the best and wishing for them to remain would only be a selfish request on his part. So he had never said it. Making their choice harder would be the unkind thing to do. Instead, he had wished them both well and let them know, near or far, they would always be friends.
āNils?ā A smile breaks across his face, like the dawn after a long dark. āIs it truly you, my friend?ā He crosses the small space between them and reaches to take his hands. Emotion wells in his throat and stings his eyes. āWhatā¦how?ā Eliwood shakes his head. āNo, it doesnāt matter. My heart is filled with joy to see you again.ā
And he canāt help but wonderā¦if this means Ninian is here as well.
Instinctively he wants to pull his hands away. But he fights the instinct off, knowing that the hands holding his are of a man who had earned his trust. Instead, the boy chooses to smile. To allow the happiness that welled up inside to express itself.

For a musician, atmosphere is important. When itās heavy, you need to know when you should try to lighten it and when to leave it be. When itās already light and joyous, you know how to ride along and become a part of it.
This atmosphere? Itās amongst the best Nils has experienced yet since coming to this land. Everywhere he went people were smiling and music filled the air. It made the young bard all the more excited to participate in the merriment himself. He even dressed up in a more refined take of a bardās clothing. And with his flute ready as always, it was only a matter of time before the boy would play his merry tune.

The best treatment is prevention, and in accordance, a group of the monasteryās finest mages has been assigned to research the cause of the plague so as to cut it off at the root. Some postulate that it is passed via miasmata, and that quarantine will successfully stymie the disease. Others point out that it is unlikely to be so simple, as there seem to be cases of it passing from one home to the next even without contact. One thing is made clear: there is not enough data, nor are there enough people to study it efficiently. Budding epidemiologists, bleeding hearts, students with nothing better to doāare all welcome to be more feet on the ground and hands in the lab.Ā [Grants Reason +1]Ā (starter for @stellaventia)
The reports continued to come in, from all corners of the Kingdom of Faerghus, from great city to small village, trickling down threateningly close to the mountain range where the monastery lay. Some who had ventured forth to investigate the illness had returned with their own strain, somehow individual and yet exactly the same as all the reports ā which was to be expected, and was treated with caution as those people were sequestered and monitored.Ā
Lachesis pressed her fingers to her lips as she stepped out from beneath the threshold of the villager's house and onto the street, hoping that the wave of nausea and dizziness would not linger. She had felt the grime of a cough that had not surfaced at the back of her throat as she spoke with some of the people who had claimed no adverse symptoms, who had insisted they were not sick as their neighbors were - which brought a spike of concern.Ā
Was it able to move regardless of contact? Like some sort of sentient, malicious creature?Ā
And, quieter but more insistent,Ā was her constitution as strong as it had once been, before the long dark?Ā
It was a question she had not thought to ask, aloud or to herself, when she had determined to venture forth and gather information for the medics and mages of the monastery. She was not predisposed to illness, or...she wasn't all those years ago.Ā
The stickiness of the cough threatened to tremble up from her throat, and she frowned, as though it might cow back from the sheer force of her determination. It tickled in response, but did not surface.Ā
Sweeping her hair over her shoulder, Lachesis turned onto the main road of the village, glancing about for someone else to question, perhaps a place to rest her tired lungs for a moment, and she cocked her head at the sound of music filtering through the heaviness of the air.Ā
Following the sound dragged her into the main square, and eyes alighted on the sight of a young man in the monastery's uniform. She waited a moment before approaching, listening to the song and watchful of the other children that had gathered at the edge of the fountain in the centre of the village. She propped herself against the low ledge, dragged a hand through the water to rub along the back of her neck while the song came to a close, and the children scattered back to their families.Ā
"You are a student, aren't you?" she finally said to break the silence in between this song and the next. She was not so acquainted with the students as she was the knights or clergy, but the uniform was a distinct one, and served its purpose. "Are you merely here to entertain, or have you come to help?"Ā
Frailty was not something unfamiliar to Nils. When he first returned to a world that had forgotten him and most of his quintessence was lost, āfrailā was a very apt way to describe him. Back then, the smallest attack on his constitution was enough to down him.
Thatās why, when an illness swept through the country, one that downed many humans, he was quick to offer assistance.
This is what led to the current moment. A group of children were left without someone to care for them, with their parents being ill.. or worse, in some cases. As most of his tasks were finished, Nils had taken it upon himself to raise their spirits a little.
The fountain plaza was his stage, a group of children his audience, as he performed his songs. Some of the rowdier kids danced along, whilst others decided to simply listen and enjoy. Either way, he could see a little more light in their eyes when they left compared to how they first came here. That was enough.
Though the children had left, one woman remained there. He noticed her approaching at the end of his performance. Judging by her clothing, she didnāt seem to be one of the villagers.
āI came here to help, of course. Thatās what Iāve been doing since this morning, Miss.ā The boy kept a light smile on his face, but there was some sort of underlying tone in his voice. āBut those children.. all they can do is wait and hope for their parents to get better. So, I wanted to cheer them up a little.ā
Suddenly, his brow furrows slightly. āUm, sorry for asking but.. are you alright? You seem a bit unsteady.ā
a brand new performance.
Epidemic / Any Skill +1
One might think Ninian had never fallen ill at all for the brightness in her face and the skip to her step when she takes her younger brotherās flute in hand. (She has not told Nils of her illness, needless to say. It was before they reunited, she has made a full recovery and he worries for her enough as it is. The knowledge would serve only to upset him.) She smiles that particular smile she all but reserves for performing, small yet crinkling the corners of her eyes.
ā I am counting on your guidance, Nils, ā she says, with a soft exhale that isnāt quite a laugh. ā Oh, and please do forgive your sister her amateurish playing. ā
Although she says that, Ninian is not quite an amateur. A beginner, certainly, but she knows the basics well after seeing Nils play so many times... and after practicing in his absence. Never with the fervor with which she always practices her dances, nor even with any real frequency; but practicing nonetheless, when she was able.
ā That is, when playing the flute did not break her heart. The feel of it in her hands, the familiar notes... They could either deepen or lighten her heartache in Nilsā absence, and she never knew which it would be till she played.
No matter. He is here now.
Though longing cannot halt her playing, something just as familiar can ā and does. Ninian starts, just slightly, to realize she is swaying to the music; and not only that, but she has stepped to the beat even while setting it.
ā Ah... I'm sorry, Nils, ā she says, with a sheepish little laugh. ā My feet started moving on their own... ā
@stellaventia
It felt like a dream, being able to laugh and play and dance with Ninian like they used to. No longer suffering under the effects of stale air, no longer fearing for their lives with every step they took. Even though Nils tended to be the more cautious one, at this moment he couldnāt suppress the way his lips curled into an easy smile, crimson eyes twinkling with a carefree joy.
āHave some faith in yourself, Ninian. Iām sure youāll do great.ā The boy said, encouraging his sister. Normally heād be the one playing the flute, guiding Ninianās graceful steps as he did. But this assignment asked of them to try something different, and so the siblings decided on switching roles. āI trust you and your ability completely, as Iāve always done.ā
And as she began to play, Nils followed the music with his steps. He wasnāt unfamiliar with dance, as heās spent plenty of time watching Ninian and helping her practice. But when he tried to copy her steps, seeing himself in the mirror it looked decidedly.. different.
Ninian was always graceful, every movement of hers flowing like water. But when Nils tried to copy those same movements, perhaps due to the shorter length of his limbs, it lacked that same refinement.
Even when she wasnāt actively trying to dance, just moving to her own melody was already ten times more graceful. āHehe, donāt worry about it.ā As always, he tried to sound reassuring. āMusic just has that effect. Whenever Iām playing I feel like dancing too!ā
