I was thinking about the whole "fandom moves on to something else" thing and it made me think about my annual picnic. Every year, I have a big picnic in early November and invite a bunch of people. I rent out a pavilion at a local lake, have people bring food that I grill for them if they want, have some games for the kids in the group, and just generally hang out.
Now, the way this goes is that I have everyone show up around 4:30pm. People show up, it's a big crowd, it's pretty warm out because the sun is still up and the mingling is great. People eat, share food, the kids run around in the trees and check out the lake, and we all just generally enjoy ourselves and catch up. Then the sun starts to go down.
People start getting under the pavilion, it starts getting a little chilly, and maybe those with really young kids start to pack up and say good-bye. This is usually when I light up the fire in the pavilion's fireplace and people will begin gathering around there. I let the grill burn down and sit down with everyone as everything gets a bit more mellow. Maybe we make s'mores or have cookies or something but this is usually were you start having more people say their good-byes and head out. That's how it goes for the next couple of hours, little dribbles of people winding up and heading on home until it's 9:30 at night and there's just a few people left in the pavilion in the woods sitting around a little fireplace quietly talking.
You know what? That's the best time at these things. Some years we'll be out there until almost midnight, just chatting quietly and staring into the coals. You learn things about people then, you hear interesting things, and you just feel closer.
So what does this have to do with fandom and moving on? Well, I see it like this. The show is still on, that's the early part of the day. Plenty of people around, lots of activity where art gets made, headcanons and meta fly fast and furious, and tons of fic gets written. Then the show ends, people are still creating but a few peel away, they have other things they have to do or just aren't interested in sticking around. Slowly but surely it goes until it's just a few people left.
That's when the interesting things really start coming out. You still have the other stuff but you start to get off the wall headcanons and wild meta, you get odd art, you get fic the person finally decided to write, and it's good. And hey, every once in a while, someone shows up late and you grab some food out of the cooler for them and warm up a burger for them over the coals while others grab a chair for them and you get them up to speed on the conversation and maybe show them some pictures from earlier in the night and they get to have some of that glow from earlier even if they missed the original.
That's fandom to me. As long as a person is still sitting around that fireplace late into the night, ready to chat, the fandom is never dead.
“Do it scared” “do it alone” are all great tips, but my biggest takeaway from therapy is do it messy. This is especially true if you’re getting out of a burnout, which I experience often. Literally just do it messy. You don’t need to pick the perfect trail to walk, the perfect playlist to listen to, whatever the fuck it is. You don’t need to have a meticulous to do list and wake up at the exact time you planned and drink the exact amount of water you planned to drink. Like the biggest thing for people like me to remember is sometimes it’s okay to do it messy. Put on a random yt workout and just get it done in sweats. Do 5 minutes of a daunting task and go from there. Sometimes just getting up is a win during intense burnouts or depressive funks. Literally just do it messy.

Just remembered I had this Verde sitting finished in my docs! Legit forgot about him lmao, its been a bisy last few months but I finished him end of June iirc. I used eels inspiration
Also he has long hair. Long haired Verde 🤤💚
I like think as a mermaid Verde would be an interesting mix of cautious and curious. Definitely the type to have an interest in humans but also not naive enough to trust them. He watches humans from their boats at night and always taken an interest in both live and dead specimens. 100% collects sunken objects and bones.
Reference by @albanenechi I used one of their mermay ones. 100% recommend their bases, they're all so good!!
lastly, choose the COOLEST/MOST SKILLED/MOST THREATENING/ETC khr antagonist
1. Mukuro
2. Xanxus
3. Byakuran
4. Enma
5. Bermuda
Remaining time: 20 minutes
So basically i'm asking who do you think was the best at being an antagonist and also looked the best doing it. And i'm not even joking for this one because the answer IS XANXUS LET'S BE FOR REAL. You're LYING or haven't rewatched/reread the varia arc in a hot minute if you think otherwise, idc idc!!!!!
The more i think about it, the funnier it gets that i completely forgot about daemon lmao. Especially when he very much WAS a khr antagonist too. Like, he did all of that during the shimon arc, but i still really just. Honest to god forgot about him zhzksksk. 😭😂
So anyway.
(poll below.)
would you have voted for daemon if i had added him?
Okay so you see that cute little curl? You see that? That's my favorite thing about Spanner's design. It reminds me of ram horns. It makes me so happy everytime I see it. Ridiculously so.
My second favorite mark actually the fact he's always eating a lollipop. It adds to his cool demeanor 🙂↕️
In third place is his tattoo. Its right on his pulse point. Slut behavior/lh. You know Byakuran and Shoichi are kissing there! I would too 😤
Bonus: The coveralls!!! You can't say those aren't sexy. They're right up there with labcoats!

I've been thinking if any of my canon x oc ships would ever have kids for months now. I've come to this conclusion:
Warning: Angst with a capital A. This should not have been angsty, but certain parts made me tear up. I may have gotten a bit too into writing this lmao 🤣
Kouyou/Hisui:
They would definitely have a kid or two. I think Kouyou is the type to want family. He lost his and I think he has a part of himself that aches for that bit of normalcy. To reclaim something that was taken from him against his will. It takes him a long time to confess he wants kids to Hisui, and even longer to admit his reasons are complex and maybe even a bit twisted. There's a part of him that scares. What if he can't protect them? What if they lose him? I think the trauma that the Shimon all faced at the hands of Daemon Spade still affects them. But I think Kouyou is one of the ones that try to hide it the most.
Hisui would take time. Its not something she ever really thought about. For her its a silent realization that happens one morning when the sun hits Kouyou's slumbering face just right and she can't but yearn for more. For tiny footsteps and laughter to echo through the halls of their home. She wants to check for monsters under the bed, to clean dirty diapers, and find put how much fuller holidays feel when you have little ones to share them with. She wants to know what their children would look like. If they'd have his hair and her eyes. Or if Kouyou would have mini version of himself. Or her of herself. She's the one who brings it up first.
It takes them a while to try. They spend the majority of the year talking about it, working things through, opening up about their fears. When they do try, it happens in the first few tries. They take a few days to tell the Shimon. It feels important that they know first. They also happen to be the first among them to have a kid so the whole thing feels more emotional than it normally would. Their family is rebuilding itself, things that were lost to Daemon Spade are being found.
Chrome is next. She's Hisui's best friend so she was next. Hisui takes Chrome out for cake and spills the news when Chrome is mid bite of her strawberry short cake. Chrome is beyond thrilled to be an aunt. Even more so when Hisui asks if she'd consider being the Godmother. It feels surreal, being close enough to someone, especially after everything that's happened, to be given such an honor. She tears up just a lottle, but Chrome can't keep the smile off her face either.
Enma is asked to be the Godfather. He can't help but be shocked. The air is tense. So many things are said without Kouyou having to say them. If something happens...then its up to Enma to survive. Its up to Enma to male sure that first spark of hope stays lite. Up to him to make sure every bit of The Shimon's future is safe and secure. Enma thinks they both need therapy, but keeps the thought to himself. As the boss it was up to him anyways. But then Kouyou says, so soft that Enma sometimes wonders if he imagined it---"I want them to know kindness." Enma says nothing, but tears are in his eyes as he accepts.
Then they tell Ryohei, who's reaction is as extreme as they expected. He shouts how extremely awesome their news is and brings them in for a hug. There's talk of the child taking up boxing.
After that there's a small party, for some reason at the Sawada house. Tsuna doesn't know why it had to be his house but once he hears the news with the rest of the Vongola amd their friends he finds himself forgetting. Everyone is happy.
Nine months later, Hisui finds out her son has Shimon red eyes and her silver hair. He's perfect, better than anything she could have dreamt up. Kouyou holds him like he's made of glass, his eyes wide with awe.
His name is Aoba Midori. Named after the color of the leaves outside the hospital window. A reminder he was born in summer.
Verde/Faye
They've talked of having kids and how much they don't want them. To Faye labor sounds terrifying. And for both its...to much. The responsibility, the weight of it. They wouldn't make good parents.
The world, or rather a scientist, a nameless worshipper of Verde’s intellect, takes their choice and spits on it. Neither of them know how or when their DNA was stolen. They just know roughly thirteen years after their marriage a child who looks too much like Verde with Faye's greens eyes arrives at their door with news that shatters them.
Technically, they have tripplets. Lab grown, each looking somewhat like them. If they came from Faye's womb, they would have been identical. They would have known all their little quirks. What they liked, what they hated. They could have read them bedtime stories, hung up their god awful scribbles on the wall. Its hard not to feel like something was stolen just as much as it is to not feel violated.
The horror of the situation only gets worse. Their children are weapons, lab rats, experiments---not human. Oh god, someone made living breathing life from their DNA and didn't have the decency to treat them human beings. Its leave a bad taste in both mouths.
Worse, when those pale green eyes look up at them with hope, like they're good decent people who will do the right thing, and they don't know how to turn away.
You aren't supposed to meet your children for the first time via rescue mission. But that's what happens. Verde hacks into the systems and Faye and Chartreuse do the rest. Easy. Simple---except it isn't. Ivy, with her brown hair, and dark green eyes---so much like Verde that hurts in a way Faye never knew possible---refuses to go. She's accepted the work of the lab, embracing all their fucked up ideals and every lie they fed her.
Faye's own training kicks in. Words like obstacle and lost cause enter her mind. Self loathing crashes into her. With it a sharp pain like that of a knife lodges itself into her heart. There is no wound, but Faye knows she's bleeding and she knows it won't ever stop.
It feels like a betrayal to knock her out and leave her there. But what can she do? Kidnap the child and hope to talk her into not wanting the lab? She's strong, stupidly strong, and she fights to kill. It hurts, worse than anything Faye as ever known, but she can't save someone who doesn't want to be. And there is still the third child to save.
His name is Sage and he'd been cowering behind some of the equipment. He looks like the spitting image of Verde, but with a fire that feels distantly like his own and reminds her of Chartreuse. Perhaps she was comparing herself and Verde to these children too much. They are and aren't her's---their's.
The last forty-eight hours are been too much too soon. She needs a drink and space to think. But for now she simply asks if he'll come with them. She tells him its his choice, but omits the part where she has no clue what they'll be. Have too many years passed for them to be a family? Does she and Verde even have it in them to try?
They leave the lab quickly, silently. Abandoning one child for the sake of two. It isn't fair. Nothing about this is fair. This shouldn't have happened---another ugly thing to think. She's beginning to think her suspicions of being a bad mother were true. She's truly the terrible. Tho absolute worst.
Verde doesn't ask why she only has two children with her. They drive away in silence, toward an old Arcobaleno safe house. The kids shuffle off to bed, all of fhem wishing each other an awkward good night.
The strange feeling of failure seaps into both of them. It drives Verde to the coffee pot and Faye to the small kitchen table. In the silence of early morning Faye confesses her failings. Verde listens, quiet but attentive. He's reminded of something Skull said. A bad joke that had made him smile at the time. He had just confessed that he and Faye weren't planning to have kids. Skull had smiled like the little shit he is and mentioned something about Verde not passing on his evil gene.
Ridiculous as it is, he can't but wonder of he did. If this is his fault for being the way he is. Later, when he confesses that same thought to Reborn, the hitman frowns and tells him he's being stupid. Verde hates how comforting the words are.
In the present, he acts like he has all the answers. He tells Faye they'll get her back. That she just needs time. He pretends the thought doesn't startle him. Where does he get off, wanting something he hasn't wanted before. Perhaps its a sense of duty, now that he knows these children exist and that his and Faye's blood runs through their veins.
What do we do now?
Verde swallows thickly, hating the wounded look in Faye's eyes.
We raise them. To the best of our ability.
He really doesn't know what's gotten into him. But Faye nods, a look of relief passing over her. And with it a weight lifts off Verde.
The night ends with a promise they don't know how to keep and a resolve that burns so fiercely within them it hurts.
They still don't think they'd be good parents. They still want to try.
One of my passions is trying to copy people’s styles I love (≧▽≦)
So I tried to draw Aiko in a style as close as possible to the khr calendars :
I’m quite proud of this one ✨
(Don’t mind the month, I drew this a while ago xD.)
And… and if you’re wondering what that little creature on her shoulder is, it’s Kurumi ! I’ll do a post focusing more on them, but think of them as Aiko’s animal box, to keep things simple.
