Robert Fripp Restores Daryl Hall’s “Exposure” Vocals

- Alternate take continues “Robert Fripp @ 80” series

The honchos at RCA Records were so frightened of Daryl Hall’s plans to serve as Robert Fripp’s singer, the label intervened to ensure John Oates’ singer dialed back his exposure on Exposure.

Hall thus appeared on only two album tracks.

“This led to Fripp recruiting other vocalists to replace Hall’s parts,” including Terre Roche on “Exposure,” Fripp’s management said in releasing an alternate version of the title track from his 1979 solo LP. It’s the same as the album version save for Hall’s restored vocals.

Bowiesque with big drums, “Fame”-styled guitar and minimalistic lyrics - X-P-O-S-U-R-E/exposure is about it - the shelved version is out as part of the ongoing “Robert Fripp @ 80” series and raises questions about what Hall might have gotten into had he had more artistic freedom in his younger days.
