I am going on my first "meet for drinks" with someone I've been chatting with on OKCupid and extremely nervous! Any advice or pointers I should keep in mind?
Ohhh congrats! Here is my advice (culled from many, many first OKC dates)
This is supposed to be fun! Relax.
Wear a cute outfit. Or, at least something that you feel good/confident/attractive in.
Don't brush your teeth or chew gum because that's super obvious and also won't mix well with whatever beverage you order. Eat a small portion of fresh fruit! It's very cleansing and not obviously trying to have nice breath. Much better.
You have nothing to prove. Don't feel that the other person is judging you or that you're on an interview, you are there as yourself and you're looking for what's up with him/her as much as s/he is looking out for what's going on with you? Don't feel that the other person has the upper hand. You can too! Or at least, equal hands.
Two drinks MAXIMUM. Even if its a glass of wine/beer and not a giant martini. Only 2.
Ask the other person some nice questions (how was your week? what's your favorite book you've read this summer?) so s/he can talk and you can zone out for a minute to help you relax. Just don't look like you're zoning out. Eye contact!
Leave in plenty of time so that you're not running late and in a rush and frantic because that will make you more nervous.
