Iirc, hope rings are the ones that drop from decomposing 3 heart items. Each recomposition item is linked to decomposing items of specific heart ratings. So no matter how much you decompose, you won't get hope rings if you there aren't any 3 heart items. The earrings require 4 heart items. This is why one thing people do is farm stages that include both 3 and 4 heart items - my default is vol 1 7-7, because you end up with 3 heart drops and 4 heart drops. This is also why, even though I've got everything from places like the comp store or the fancy permanent pavs, I'll still collect items from them - more to decompose. And why I pull in the gold pav regularly - crystal shoes for lifetimes (not that I need them anymore), crafting items that cost dias (like the million yellow kerchiefs I need) and items up decompose. I also go to the tools section and sell about 70% of my material for more gold, so I can pull more in the pav.
