Fun fact: The Vikings literally exchanged swords at a wedding. The man was supposed to BREAK INTO HIS FATHER’S/GRANDFATHER’S CRYPT, STEAL HIS SWORD, AND GIVE IT TO HIS WIFE WHEN THEY GOT MARRIED. The woman gave her husband a brand-new sword. And like, the woman was apparently supposed to hang onto this ancient sword and make sure that it was buried with her husband when he died.
So yeah. Engagement swords or at least wedding swords should definitely be a thing.
so wait, were viking men not allowed to get married until their father died? Or did everyone just build a crypt as soon as they had a son and put a sword in it? Or if your dad was still alive, were you just supposed to break into his room and steal it from him while he slept? I NEED ANSWERS
Seconded.
Factoid and fanciful, but a bit too pat to be fact, at least in any sweeping “this is how it ALWAYS happened” way.
Viking-era swords were indeed recycled, but usually by being handed down not dug up, even though in “Grettis Saga” the protagonist Grettir Ásmundarson carries a short sword or long knife (a saex or seax or scramasax or sax but not AFAIK a sex) called Kársnautr - “Kárr’s gift” - which he took from Kárr’s burial mound.
This one, similar to No. 13, is the “seax of Beagnoth”, held by the British Museum…
…and this repro shows one of the simplest hilt-types it might have had when new.
Viking Answer Lady’s website has a list of sword-names , including several ending in “-nautr”. The giver of the gift might be a king or jarl although, given the cynical Viking sense of humour, the donor might equally be a defeated enemy from whom the sword was looted.

One of my favorite kennings for Loki is "farmr Sigvinjar arma", which translates roughly to "the cargo of Sigyn's arms". Add a little Gustav Klimt to the equation, and you have an idea that's been plaguing me for months.

"look into the trash and find a god" @ohmerricat 2024
instead of the cherry style at first i was gonna give them pink hair too but then I realized oh no. Loki would absolutely be the kind of person to pair RGB red hair with a pink crop top, which is in and of itself diabolical

Loki is, in fact, SO EVIL that he dared to help me when I was having a panic attack AND tell me that I'm deserving of love and respect - oh, the humanity! 😩

I was getting ready to leave this morning, I am not at all a morning person and slept in a bit so I was rushing, I proceeded to put on my shoe and felt something in it so I then dumped it and this mf fell out
Me: what should I do? I wish the universe would help me out, send me some kind of sign
The universe: *sends me a truckload of extremely obvious signs as to what I should do*
Me: no I don’t want to do that
So this happened. Marvel finally got it right.
The old gods find home in the hearts and altars of ALL their children. If you are a BIPOC, queer, disabled, trans, and/or part of any other marginalized group--never forget that you are welcome, worthy, and loved.
No Nazis/TERFs/bigots in Valhalla, or any other of the gods' halls. Odin is the all-father, not the some-father.
King Paimon loved the movie Hereditary because more people got to be "introduced" to him.
Loki loves MCU Loki for the same reason.
It's like... free outreach for potential devotees.

Peeps, I think it'd be a good idea to stop using dragons' blood incense as the tree it is made from is on the verge of extinction. Like if you already have dragons' blood incense on hand then go ahead and use it, but stop buying it so you don't contribute to the plant's extinction.
Lokeans, please take into consideration that Loki's mother Laufey is a nature Goddess whose name translates to "Leafy." So maybe the protection of endangered plants might be important to her and to Loki.
I'll be honest, I've never understood why Dragon's Blood is used for Loki, other than because it has "blood" in the name. It's more intuitive to use a plant native to Northern Europe, where Loki is from.
I'll admit I don't know how much stick incense out there is made with plants native to Northern Europe. Personally, I use loose incense blends when offering scents to Loki.
They tried to shut my mouth
They said no more the silver tongue
Now even my lips are adorned with silver
Look at me my dear
And tell me I don’t look even shinier
They chained me down
My my
It happens to the best of us
But trust me honey
I am better than the best
I am the sly son of Laufey
And the daughter of Farbauti
I shook their world to the ground
Even though I am still bound
Who is to say you cannot?
When you have me at your side
Do not fret that easily
Because every chain explodes at infinity
It turns out lions are also cats
And they can be pretty loud
I burned the world hot and sweet
And throw a party at the end of it
Because anyone saying it’s not worth it
Is either dull or lying through their teeth
Worlds ended many times at the night
And began again in the morning
At least that’s what they say
I have seen it
I am the flame-haired, trickiest trickster
A shameless bastard and the world-breaker
I survived every apocalypse I’ve ever been
Just like you did
So chin up kiddo
My children are not known for their love of chains
But for their grand escape and Hel-raising
