Lineart+Block in colors

Background work. I download 3d models and paint over them to make it look more cartoony. It's the most time-consuming part because I don't have a direct process, but I usually duplicate the bg layer, add a filter over it, put the opacity to 50 or so and paint. Also tweak the hell out of the colors with gradient maps, overlay modes, etc. Anything that makes it look cohesive. (Credit for the 3d model right here)

Shadows

Ambient occlusion (aka, darkest part of shadow) and highlights

Any special effects you might want (motion blur, stars, rim lights etc). Don't forget to color the lineart.
