The forest was glowing: Lewis Falls, southern YNP
(c) riverwindphotography, July 2026
Officially designating this week (maybe this entire month) as 'speed drawing' month...I am soooo beyond sick of the fact that it seems to take me a week(!) on average just to finish a drawing nowadays (in the past, I used to fill multiple sketchbook pages in the matter of an hour or two) and I'm challenging myself to just fucking finish things. Gonna work on every ipad sketch I've shown interest in within the past month with the modest goal of finishing each drawing by the end of the day (if it's something that involves a lot of finicky detail work I'll allow a little more time, as long as I get the main subjects done).
(posting this publicly with the hopes that maybe it'll pressure me to actually do it!)
on that subject I'm not pressuring myself to post artwork anymore between here and instragram (not that I did much anyway, or that many people even really notice anything I share, but the pressure to share and not have things just 'stay hidden in sketchbooks' is always in my mind).
i've realized i need to step all the way back to the beginning and undo many bad thinking patterns that has hindered my enjoyment of doing art for a long time. I've developed so many nonsensical unspoken 'rules' that have prevented me from simply loosening up and painting (or even sketching), or trying new methods of approaching artwork that might help me improve. I've become too focused on feeling like time is constantly slipping away so any time spent painting had better 'count' (aka, yield a 'perfect' result). I end up anxious instead of enjoying the process and the feelings of immersing myself within a scene I've imagined. And then I'm often unsatisfied because I feel that I always play it safe and thus only end up finishing my more 'boring' (less atmospheric/emotional) ideas or studies from photos (enjoyable though they may be!) as a result.
so my goal is to start learning to let go! I've started following an artist who developed exercises for breaking out of perfectionism and I've decided I'm gonna make that a priority for the foreseeable future. if anything nice comes out of my experimenting sure maybe I'll share it, but I'm pushing that to the back of my mind as much as I can. I think I sort of reached a breaking point realizing how slow I am just trying to finish a sketch these days, and something needs to change.

Protect California's coasts!
No matter where you live, you can speak up and take action now to protect the coast of California from offshore drilling.
The Trump administration's plan for new offshore oil and gas drilling in federal waters is expected any day. If finalized, drilling could begin off the California coast as soon as next year.
We need youāour Aquarium Tumblr communityāto act right now.
š£ California residents: Tell your lawmakers to vote YES on AB 1448āclosing loopholes that let old infrastructure fuel new drilling. Submit by August 3.
š£ Everyone: Tell NOAA to keep California's coastal protections strong. NOAA needs to hear from everyone who loves the California coast, no matter where you live. Public comments are due August 22.
Our coast can't wait. Take action now:
Take two actions to stop federal offshore drilling off California's coast.
And we're here to address some questions you may be having regarding our food supply.

A woman explaining how to pet a Mongolian mastiff. According to OP, this is Muyu and Mufang's first Dahan (大åÆ; "Great Cold"; Jan 20 - Feb 3), which is the final term of the 24 solar terms in a year according to the Chinese calendar. English added by me :)

Remi works with a hesitant, erratic violence, creating a piece as light and fluffy as she is, and signing her work by hole-punching it with her teeth.
Timmy uses bold, strong lines to evoke some kind of powerful event, echoing his powerful presence and loud voice.
Nubbins, truly inspired, creates a high-energy piece that symbolizes the void where his brain should be, surrounded by chaos and mischief.
Kona, a reclusive avante garde artist, refused to work with me around. Only in quiet solitude did she create this haunting, introspective work.
