⊹₊˚ POSITIVE PLACEMENTS THAT MODERN ASTROLOGY OVERLOOKS

A lot of arguments against traditional (tropical) astrology tend to revolve around the concept that every placement is negative and traditional astrologers have nothing positive to say about a chart....but that's just simply not true. I decided to make this post in order for me to challenge this belief and show that traditional astrology can actually have some concepts that are far more positive than what modern astrology says. I hope you will enjoy this post!

1. The 5th/11th house: In modern astrology these houses only gain a shallow description such as "casual dating" or "besties", but these houses are far more special and beneficial in trad astrology. What makes them so distinct is the fact that the two benefics rejoice in these houses. Venus rejoices in the 5th house while Jupiter rejoices in the 11th house. Because of that, these houses gain a positive and powerful role in a chart. For example Vettius Valens stated in his works how malefics in the 11th house cannot do any evil, and he also gave positive descriptions for the malefics in the 5th house if they rule over the Ascendant or the Lot of Fortune

2. Jupiter: Jupiter in general is very underestimated in modern astrology, as it only gains a shallow role of a teacher or a force that only expands. But in traditional astrology it's literally considered the bigger benefic and a planet that offers support, community, prosperity and beneficence

3. Mitigation: This concept is sadly not implemented in modern astrology, which is a shame because it can be important. Everyone is already familiar with affliction, but mitigation requires the same amount of attention. To put it very shortly mitigation represents the process in which a difficult placement gains support or strength from another placement in the chart. This way the harsh effects of the difficult placement can be softened or alleviated

Mitigation comes in different ways. It can come from aspects with the benefic planets, sect, accidental dignity etc.

Example: You have a Virgo Venus in a day chart. Venus is out of sect and it's also in Fall so in return it becomes peregrine and cannot offer you much beneficial effects all by itself. Despite that, Jupiter in Taurus (aka the in-sect benefic) makes an exact trine to Venus so in return Venus doesn't become completely peregrine and can still offer some form of positive influence in your chart based on the support that it gains from Jupiter

4. Bounds: Sadly the bounds are another important concept which was excluded from modern astrology. While not all bounds carry a positive meaning, there are still some of them which bring beneficial effects. For example Libra's bound of Venus is described as "lucky in everything". Another example can be Scorpio's bound of Jupiter which is described as "talented, lucky, high-priestly"

Having a preference is one thing but honestly, if you go and say "A system is mora accurate than B system", that's just admitting you have a shallow understanding of astrology and you're probably never going to be an astrologer.

In context of sidereal practicioners (esp vedic) bashing on tropical; it's not the tropical system's fault if you can't go beyond modern pop astrology and get your info from instagram and twitter. It's a thousands years old system and personality natal chart is 1/10000th of the practice. Traditional tropical astrologers use the sects, triplicities, chronocrators, fixed stars, lots, bounds (terms), decans ETC. Mesopotamians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljjuks, Ottomans, Abbasids, Umayyads, Sassanians all used mainly tropical system, but often mixed both because a good astrologer expands. Tropical astrology was the astrology of power, empire, administration, and statecraft while Sidereal astrology was tied to ritual timing, cosmology, and spiritual cycles. So, just because you don't relate to being a tropical Cancer because you're not a crybaby as the IG astrologers call it, doesn't mean tropical is not as accurate. I hope that's clear.

The funny thing is, most of the time someone says "sidereal is more accurate than tropical" they are literally not good at either......If you don't understand a system by heart, you can't know how it differs from others and you'll mix up all the dichotomies. I see this even in so called sidereal "astrologers".

Debilitation / Exaltation in Sidereal vs. Tropical

Using sidereal astro is meaningless if you practice it while thinking from a tropical pov and many people (including some vedic astrologers) cant make the distinguishment...it's like writing in a phonetically incompatible alphabet. Most of the time people try to use tropical astro's understanding of these terms in sidereal and it just doesnt work. Esp in Vedic, "exaltation" heavily corralates to dharma, good deeds & spiritual fullfillment. It doesn't give the material success & happiness you imagine, debilitation does that instead.

Examples: Libra/Aries (Virgo/Pisces) & Sagittarius/Gemini (Scorpio/Taurus)

Libra Venus, which is domicile in tropical becomes debilitated Virgo Venus in sidereal for a reason, and vice versa. They are, contrary to popular belief, not contradicting each other. Both these placements tell you the same story and you reach the same conclusions with both, only if you know how to speak both languages.

Sidereal originates in Babylonia and eventually its philosophy became integrated within eastern philosophy meanwhile Tropical is based upon western philosophies.

Tropical works in very literal and straightforward ways. It's not focused on "dharma" as eastern philosophy Sidereal and vedic is, so when you have exalted/domicile placements in tropical you get direct results from it in the material world the way its described.

E.g tropical Libra venus; yes, as it is described in tropical you are most likely a fashion icon, can't be in non-aesthetic places, like to flirt with everyone and leverage social gains, meticulously beautify yourself and find yourself in complicated love affairs. As you see, the tropical manifestation is very much focused on worldly gains, its' obvious manifestation and self-benefits.

It becomes debilitated in sidereal because sidereal's concept of exaltation is not worldly success or ego satisfaction, it is dharma and spiritual ascension. This is why you see usually tropical malefic placements becoming benefic in sidereal, such as tropical scorpio turning into libra and tropical capricorn turning into tropical sagittarius. The worldly hardships they go through primes them for spirituality and moksha.

We can also compare Sidereal Scorpio moon (debilitated) vs Taurus moon (exalted) to understand how dignities work in sidereal.

As i've said before most scorpio moons are engulfed in maternal care and attention since birth and tend to have over sacrificial mothers who are willing to do anything for them, even put them on a pedestal. Mine for example does everything for me unprompted and glazes me for the smallest accomplishment or attempt - so why is moon debilitated in sidereal Scorpio?

That is because despite all the attention and care, Scorpio moon is deeply apathetic (co-ruled by ketu) and discontent. There's a void that's very hard to fill, and it's hard to make a Scorpio moon feel geniunely nourished and maybe that's why they are granted with such parents. They are also naturally more inclined to be repelled from their mother - unlike Taurus. Scorpio moon is generally restless and deals with oppression (especially about religion/freedom) from their family. It's noteworthy that in tropical also, sagittarius moon is peregrine position.

Taurus moons face a lot of discrimination and lack of nourishment/care from their mother. a LOT of taurus natives i know are either motherless or straight up have terrible mothers; volatile, abusive and negligent. despite this, they will still care and stand for their family. They are usually granted a very solid nervous system which prevents them from having extreme mood swings and they tend to feel fullfilled with even smallest things. they strive to be good to their family no matter what they go through, henceforth moon exaltation.

Neither tropical or sidereal are better or worse than e/o in terms of accuracy, they are both accurate and both work perfectly. The most skilled astrologers in history used a blend of methods from Hellenic, Islamic, Vedic and Mesapotamian studies.

This is the planet responsible for your direction of the soul. You choose between these:

●Asc lord

●Moon lord

●MC lord

●Lot of Fortune lord

●Prenatal lunation bound lord - if you have waxing moon see bound of last new moon before birth, if you have waning moon see bound of last full moon before birth.

●any planet making a heliacal risen set or station 7 days before or after birth

●Any planet in domicile AND bound of asc (like a 1h planet very close to asc angle - falling in the same bound)

Evaluate and choose one, based on rulership by domicile, bound, exaltation, Triplicity, eastern or western hemisphere (eastern is stronger), angularity, visibility, solar phase, and whether its lords by domicile or bound etc witness it.

Eastern > western

Eastern meaning on the left of the chart BTW, from 10h till 3h

Angular > cadent. Disqualify cadent planets immediately.

Better if witnessed by its lord by any aspect and even better if it's lords are its sect mates

(night sect planets are Venus moon, mars, mercury if after sun, day sect planets are sun, jupiter, saturn, mercury if before sun)

While astrology is very intuitive, it is also very technical. I’ve realised that many people skip “the boring part” and want to read charts immediately- with little to no knowledge. Practicing with charts is an amazing thing to do, but so much is missed without important fundamentals. Temperament matters. Understanding modalities matters. Why a certain sign is a certain modality. Dignity matters. And so much more. Doing the boring and technical part is what ties everything together, what makes things make sense. You can’t understand how Mars in Pisces functions if you don’t understand their basics natures, their temperament, their primary qualities.

Example: mars is a malefic planet. Why? Because mars is excessively hot and dry. Its excessive nature makes it incompatible with life. It is known as the lesser malefic.
