Hey there! I know it has been a while, apologies for the already impromptu hiatus taking way longer than I thought. I'll try to keep it brief as to why.
I've had to finally start the process of addressing a myriad of health concerns of mine (I'm okay! Just a lot to figure out) and that has taken up most of my time in between commissions and other adult life things over the past while. Thus, I have been very busy and stressed with things that have required a lot of mental and emotional energy from me. In fact, I nearly forgot about the SGZ anniversary this year entirely, and I think that's a good indicator of how chaotic things have been. These are big changes, and ones that will ultimately be for the better, but it's going to be a long and messy process to find what exactly is wrong and how to treat it.
Sadly I do not have anything new for SGZ to show you (well, nothing finished, my WIP pile is a mountain as usual) nor do I have any idea when I'll be able to get back to the comic itself. But, I assure you that many things are still happening for the project behind the scenes. As you may have seen already, I still reblog and post about anything SGZ related as usual :)
Admittedly I was a bit apprehensive to break the radio silence without anything to show for it for the anniversary today, but I wanted to at least say something. I can say that the project is not dead and hasn't been during this downtime either. I can only hope that things will get better for me from here and I can give this project the time and energy it deserves.

Heya! I'm back with some design tweaks for Libra this time :) The front 3/4 pose is actually a retool of a clothing breakdown I did for her design back in 2020 (6 years ago!) The differences are pretty subtle without a side-by-side comparison, but I'm still quite happy with the improvements overall. Finally finished her tome design and new staff too, those also spent a long time in the WIP pile. Enjoy! <3
Hi! Some Pisces design tweaks for you today ^_^ I've had this as a WIP for what feels like forever, so I wanted to get this done this month. The tweaks mostly consisted of revisiting the combo of concepts I've had for her for a while, I felt she needed more fish-like elements overall even if she was going to stay mostly human in her base body structure, and without repeating too many of the elements I already used for Capricorn. I wanted her lionfish inspired fins to be a lot more prominent this time too, and I like the bottom-heavy silhouette they give her here.
One of the reasons this took so long was because of my long-standing debate about whether or not she'd have a tail at all, even if she still had legs. I decided to compromise and give her a mermaid-style tail transformation that she can use while swimming, which I will finish at a later date. But for now, this is her base design!
I took the opportunity to update her weapon as well, it has been even longer since I last drew it. Fun fact, a bident is a real thing! As you'd expect, it's the two-pronged version of a trident :]
Hey! Feels like it has been forever since I did some design work for Starglass Zodiac, I've had a pile of WIPs that I've been chipping away at for so long but actually finishing one has been a whole other thing. This is not as extensive as some of my other ref sheets as a result, so I'll likely finish an extended version sometime later, but I've been itching to share one regardless.
This is Urania! A prior incarnation of Uranoscopus's constellation, thought to be the first. She's relevant to the main story in a more "extended lore" sense, but her backstory does inform the lead-up to certain story elements, so I was excited to work that out behind the scenes. :D
Her colour scheme and symbol integration ended up very similar to that of Ursa Minor in the end, but I intend to revisit the Ursas' concepts later anyway, so I'm not too bothered. That said, her design does deliberately mirror (ha) another character I've already designed for lore reasons :] (other than her constellation counterpart, I mean)
The mirror carried by the current Uranoscopus is the same as the one seen here, but was transformed by the crafty ringleader for her own purposes, giving it a different appearance and function. Originally, Urania's Mirror was more akin to a star map of the Astral Plane, a reference to a series of star maps from the 1800s of the same name. Mythologically speaking, Urania herself is the Muse of astronomy, though the term "muse" is used a bit more literally for this character.
Hi everyone! If you missed my last post, I'm back to celebrate a very important milestone: Starglass Zodiac's anniversary! As of today (July 19th, 2025), SGZ is 10 years old!!! Aaahhh!!!!! I could never have imagined what this project would become back then, and I can't believe it even now ;u;
To celebrate, I've created a lore document of this story's magical elements and abilities for your reading pleasure! :D
Though I have removed the largest spoilers from this version of the document (as much as I love yapping I have to keep some of my secrets lmao), I still must give a general SPOILER WARNING!!! as those are unavoidable here. Simply discussing the magic system reveals more info in general, including the stories of some characters, and the magic is closely connected to the overall themes of the comic as well. Regardless, I hope you enjoy! :D

It likely won't stay up forever, but it will at least stay until I'm able to create wiki-style lore and character pages for everything in the future :) Either way, no info will be lost between the iterations, even as I make tweaks and additions to this one going forward. It's a lot to keep track of, after all! Still, it is very satisfying to get this to some level of done after so long :'D I'd like to add some visuals for some sections of this document as well!
Perhaps it's because I've been staring at text for most of today to finish this, but I currently lack the words to express how much this milestone means to me ;u; I'm not sure I'm actually processing it fully, haha! Despite my recent burnout, my love for this project remains the same. And if you're reading this, thanks for sticking around for this weird and wonderful journey of mine! <3

As for the comic itself, I've been lost in the Art Fight sauce all month and will be until the end of July, but that has luckily cured my burnout for the time being! I am currently aiming for the comic to return sometime in August, but I will confirm for you later on if I'm able to return at that time with another post on this blog. Hey all, back with another update. Things have been quite busy on my end, and it will only get busier going into July. That said, July also has a very important day: Starglass Zodiac's 10th anniversary! That's right, as of July 19th, this project will have existed for 10 whole years!!! Really surreal to think about!
Naturally, I'd like to do something special for it, but I've been pretty occupied with other things as of late and have not had time to plan much :') That said, I can at least promise you something on the 19th for the anniversary, I just don't know what yet. If it's not a regular comic update, it'll likely be something related to the lore/worldbuidling. I have been working on a document that outlines the magic system in particular, so perhaps I can share some of that.

Got some design tweaks for Perseus for you all tonight :] Figuring out everything that’s going on on his head has always been a delicate balance, but I think I finally got the shape and positioning of his horns that I wanted to better integrate his symbol. The rest was pretty much just minor cosmetic tweaks to ensure I didn’t mess up the colour balancing along with everything else.
I liked the pose/expression I did for him on his last key art update, so I’ll update that with the new design eventually too, but I just did a standard character sheet pose for now for clarity’s sake. I’m doing this in pretty much the same way as Orion’s new ref sheets, so I’m not sure when I’ll finish part two of this, but I’m at least glad I have this part done before Art Fight next month. Hey all, just checking in as promised. Unfortunately the burnout situation has not improved much, and some things occurring in my personal life are the primary reason for that.
I'll spare you the details, as they are not relevant to this blog, but basically an ongoing situation in my life has recently escalated, and I don't currently know if there's much I can do about it on my end yet.
To clarify: I'm okay, I am largely a bystander in this situation, but I need to see how and when I'll be able to take the next step forward to fixing my burnout and mental state in general. It's going to be (and has already been) a lot of waiting, and I likely won't get answers until at least June, if not later.
TL;DR My situation has not improved much, so I will provide another status update on this blog sometime in June. I have a lot of WIPs that are near completion, so hopefully I can at least finish some of those both for this project and for Art Fight in July. Anything I make for SGZ in the meantime will be shared here, as usual! Thank you for understanding <3
Hi there!! Curious, when it comes to the symbols of the former constellations for Starglass Zodiac (ex. Uranoscopus, Noctua, Aranea) did you make them yourself? And if so, are they free to use?
Hi Anon! Thank you for your message, I'm flattered you're interested in my symbol designs :'D The simple answer is, yes to both! For anything in Starglass Zodiac that didn't already have a symbol, I designed it myself. That said, this does give me the opportunity to clarify some things while I'm here, and to provide everything for you in one place.
For the constellation symbols I've designed (which I will show below) you are free to use them, though I greatly encourage you to design some yourself as well! It's very fun :D You can use my designs as inspiration for your own if you'd like! Credit is appreciated if you decide to use my designs verbatim/without any edits, but really, the vast majority of these are so simple that they become ubiquitous and thus cannot be attributed to only me anyway. The Starglass symbol is just a rounded star with an oval in the centre, after all! Please feel free to tag me in anything you make with them too, I'd love to see :D

The symbol designs for Starglass Zodiac have been a big WIP on my end for a while, and thus I haven't actually figured out if I'm done designing all of them, if I'm changing any of them, and which ones I will actually end up using. I will eventually have a dedicated page on the project's site that will delineate the credits and usage permissions for all of the symbols in full, not just mine, but this post can serve that purpose for now I suppose!
The 12 zodiac constellation symbols (plus Ophiuchus) are already in the public domain. The remaining 75 of the 88 modern constellation symbols that I use for my character designs can be found HERE.
To quote the page's usage permissions:
"Traditional constellation symbols are in the public domain. Lyra, Orion, Perseus, Quadrans Muralis, Ursa Major, and Ursa Minor symbols created by Denis Moskowitz and Alec Finlay for the book One Hundred Year Star-Diary and released to the public domain. All other symbols created by Denis Moskowitz and released to the public domain."
I would have designed all of the remaining symbols myself at the start of this project if I had to, but these already fit so perfectly with the others so it saved me a lot of time! Big thanks to Denis and Alec for that :D Moreover, I've taken inspiration from these for my additional symbol designs so that they're all consistent stylistically.

Here are the designs I've made for some defunct constellations so far, two of the sites I've used for lists of them are HERE and HERE if you need it:
*A note about Tigris's symbol, I designed this assuming it was meant to represent an actual tiger, but it's meant to be the River Tigris instead. Whoops! I've since decided to combine the two for my character as a compromise
*Hippocampus has two symbols because I'm unsure whether the original mapper meant for it to be a seahorse (the real sea creature that shares the Latin name) or the mythical half-horse half-fish creature, so I designed symbols for both options

There are alternate names or previously combined versions of some of the modern constellations that I decided to make into separate constellations/characters, and thus they needed symbols too:
Xiphias - alternate name for Dorado
Anser - part of Vulpecula's constellation
Cervus - alternate name for Monoceros
Medusa - derived from Caput Medusae (Medusa's head), part of Perseus's constellation
Vultur/Vultur Cadens - alternate name for Lyra
Cerberus - part of Hercules's constellation
Phoenicopterus - alternate name for Grus
Chara & Asterion - the individual names for the Canes Venatici
*Though I did not design the main symbol for the Canes Venatici, since both of the dogs already had separate names, I wanted to make two variants of the symbol based on my character designs for them as well

Some symbols had to be made for other uses in Starglass Zodiac specifically (top row) with Solana and Luna being for my versions of the Gemini twins whenever I need to differentiate the two. The rest are for constellations that are completely made up by me, apropos of nothing other than I wanted to have fun, haha! I used their Latin names so that they match the others:
And as a bonus, here's the symbols I've designed for the Chinese zodiac, including the cat! The same usage permissions apply for these too :)

Uh, hey everyone! Turns out that after feeling astonishingly bad for the past two weeks, I officially have burnout. Whoops... :')
A quick TL;DR before I start rambling: This project isn't going anywhere and neither is the comic! I just need to figure out the best way to recover from this for a bit and will give you a status update sometime in May. I don't think the art train will completely stop during this time either, and anything I make related to this project will be shared here like usual! I recently received a nice ask about the constellation symbols on my main art blog that I've queued to share here as well, so stay tuned for that. And as always, thanks for reading, friends! To be honest, I probably should have seen this coming. And in some ways I already did, but it wasn't an immediate problem and I have little to no idea what to do about it. I feel like I never truly recovered from crashing and burning super hard after my last year of college, and have been coasting on some level of fluctuating burnout since. Don't get me wrong, I've loved what I've been able to make thus far, for this and otherwise, but I'm still frustrated that I lack the skill and speed to do it faster and better.
Starglass Zodiac's 10th anniversary is this year, and it has been a large part in helping me get through those 10 years, easily the worst of my life so far. This and my other art projects have sustained me in so many ways, and yet clearly something is still broken if I ended up here again. My guess is that it's not this project or my art in general, but everything around it. An extremely common and obvious mood in 2025, I know!
If I am going to be doing any art for this project during this grace period, it'll likely be character design. It's where the majority of my passion lies and I have so many WIPs that are varying degrees of finished. I also want to learn some new skills to make my comic making process easier, primarily so I don't go through all the stages of grief just to draw a single background or vehicle... 🫠
The entire point of doing this as a webcomic first was to build my skills, and I knew going into it that I would be punching above my weight in that regard, but I think I've over-extended myself (a common problem for me, despite my perpetual fatigue) My current view on my art has been on the decline and I cannot fully trust what I'm thinking about my skill or worth right now. I need to trust that a break will help me see things more clearly and more positively again.
While all of my personal projects are for me first and foremost, some are more artistically challenging than others, and thus require brain power that I don't always have. I may need to return to my comfort zone for a while like I've been doing on my sketch blog as of late, but we'll see.
For the record, I'm okay in general! I'm just very tired and sad right now :')
