it was the first thing that had come to mind when he’d awoken in some room drenched in water, only to be greeted with a text from that asshole & his siblings not in sight. though he wasn’t in the gang world, he could still hold his own some.. or at least he liked to think so. after gustavo had finally woken up and it hit him that his siblings weren’t around, he needed to find a way out quick. find either jace or rafaela and bolt with them back home. 

but his pacing in circles comes to an abrupt stop at the sound of the door to his room opening, an immediate slew of spanish swear words escaping him– being thrown like verbal daggers at the intruder. ‘’– don’t you dare think about it!’’ gustavo says all too immediately, reaching for the first thing he saw ( some pipe that had been left out like a toy.) and attempted to scare the other off so they wouldn’t come any further. ‘’i’m not with no gang, i’m just a normall.. normal person?’’ like he’d been unsure of what to say, but still attempted to throw in a light joke while his grip on his weapon got tighter. ‘’i’m warning you!’’

he couldn’t remove the mask quicker as soon as he got out of the room . his back hit the wall and he lowered himself down trying to find a way to ground himself , it felt like all the air had been sucked from his lungs . covering his face with his hand he tried to not think about what had happened in such a short time span and not think about what was yet to happen . 

THE CHERRY ON TOP , he had to brand his own brother . the one person that had his back up until this point , someone that when facing was like looking into a mirror . HE TRUSTED HIM . and he sat on the couch and didn’t tell him ANYTHING . HE BRANDED HER . and now he was coming for him , and he knew that as soon as they got off the ship his brother would UNKNOWINGLY be gunning for him . his fingers traced along the mask as he tried to put off the inevitable . this was already hell . how much worse could it be ? there was rafaela and rosebud and others that could be hurt . attachments were bad but it was all human nature .

somehow finding the will to get back on to his feet he stood up to pull the mask back over his head and enter the last door to look all but look himself in the mirror . taking care once more to lock the door as he made his way inside to assess the situation and find the way to make this nightmare end .   

NUMBNESS WAS ALL HE FELT as he took the mask off his head after leaving the first room , it had been impossible to breathe he kept a hand on the wall beside him to try and find steady ground . 

he’d been trying to go through the motions and trying not to connect , gus had been difficult and the next two names were going to be damn near impossible . if he thought he had been lost before this was on a whole new level , there was hardly any way to come back to things he’d done and the things he was getting ready to do . dominique and devlin WERE HIS FAMILY . as misguided as it was this was his way of keeping them safe in the long run -- right ? dark hues kept on the ground trying to make patterns out of nothing , there was that little annoying voice in the back of his head reminding him he couldn’t skip a name . taking in one last inhale of air he pulled the mask back over his head and made his way into the new room taking care to lock the door behind him .

her name wanted to leave his lips , but he knew better than to call for a friend for comfort like this . he was a PAWN in some fucked up chess game between A and the people of rosewick , and he had a part to play or he’d just be picked right off the chess board .

he couldn’t STOP thinking about that singular sentence . he’d done everything up until this point for THEM , and now two of those people were on the list -- the goddamn list of people to BRAND -- the third was gustavo . his relationship with rafaela was already in shambles as is --

THINK RAFAELA IS GOING TO TAKE IT WELL FINDING MY NAME BRANDED INTO LITTLE REYES ?

IF SHE EVER found out -- she’d have to understand ultimately ( he just had to keep telling himself that ) , it was for devlin and rosebud and her . “ i’m sorry rafaela .. “ the words slipped from his lips without little real thought . it did little good psyching himself up with everything pacing outside the door . he knew full well who was already inside waiting for their rude awakening and he just wanted to get this over with , he was already going to be sick when he got to devlin and dominique . slipping the mask on over his head he pushed the door open to the first name on his list not knowing fully what to expect .
