I know this can be said for multiple strawhats but he genuinely has a villain origin story. his father figure is taken from him by the government because of HIS actions and everyone blames HIM and when he tries to save his dad he’s mortally wounded in the process. so he rebuilds himself with metal turning himself into a WEAPON!!!!!!!!!!! and yet instead of enacting revenge (which his body is capable of) he chooses to stay in the city that created him (and hates him) to protect his brother
