Summary:

There it was again.

Though Marinette couldn’t tell what exactly was that ‘it’ she was talking about.

It wasn’t like Felix had done anything beyond being friendly. Just like in all those other situations, he simply behaved like a perfect gentleman, but she always felt that there was something more to it.

For example, every time she said goodbye to him at her door, it seemed to Marinette that some special tension hung in the air between them, as if he didn’t want to leave, didn’t want to leave her. And although she didn’t want to let him go either, Marinette was worried that it was all just her imagination, and she never invited him in, afraid that she got it all wrong and it would look stupid.

And today was one of those evenings.

The kwami appear in the earliest version of the bible we have access to- (the 3rd version of it!) They were all trapped in an orb, and existed as specks of light that only took form once they posess an object that is special to a human, and from there they grant wishes.

In this post, I want to explore the main two kwami specifically.

in the 7-2012 bible. they are is described like this:

While in the orb, they are asleep. He prefers to be alive. he cares a lot about Felix. Whoops! He is jealous of Felix' affections for Ladybug- he also refuses to be returned to the orb, and since that is her ultimate goal... He plays diablo.

the 10-2012 bible had severe story shifts, introducing Akuma and depreciating the Kwami.

In this version, the Kwami were assigned rather than born from their wishes, leaving their stories somewhat sparse in comparison.

Tikki is really immature in this version.

Plagg is interesting. Apparently, he was tireless.

his taste for foul cheese existed as a bribe, rather than fuel.

The 2013 bible dosen't change too much,

Tikki seems to be a LOT more soft and squishy here.

and here she needs hugs to recharge instead of sweets.

the 2014 bible is approaching what canon is, and so we see the kwami get closer to how they operate in canon.

Tikki went from a baby, to an older sister archetype.

she also ate croissants.

I think she looks like chell in this picture.

The plot of the October 2012 and 2013 bibles revolves around how Papillon had stolen the Orb of the Akouma and is using it to cause problems in Paris. Fu seperately enlists Marinette and Adrien to help recover the orb- but they are kept distracted due to constant Akouma attacks.

Adrien (who still holds the "Felix" design) had gotten a bit of a rework. In the previous July 2012 bible, Felix was the son of faraway rich parents- and Papillon was NOT A PART OF THE SERIES. . This is the first appearance of him, and he is very interesting.

Papillon would actively arrive on the scene to dispense Akouma.

... and he was actually posessed himself.

Very interesting, kind of scary. I like it.

Oh? Where did that Felix come from? It's there in French version as well.. Anyway, Here, his father is referred to as Gabriel when clearly this is Richard Sphinx... and where is Adoni or Null? Hmmm. I feel like there is still a lot to know about precanon, we are missing many many parts.

In the June 2014 bible, the story has dropped Adrien's bad leg, and went full-in on him being a model..

Here gabriel has many many brands. he ven has his own bank! A powerful man indeed.. I think this may be a carryover...

He is states to have a fear of leaving the house.

Kaan seems to be precursor to Nooroo.

it is by the 2013 bible does the design we know as "Felix" start to transition into "Adrien" (even though he has been Adrien since the beginning.) the plot that he desired to become a doctor was officially dropped at this point for a new, less complicated goal...

There is particular emphasis on how he insists on wearing casual clothes.

He is far more rebellious, and actively tries to skirt his father's goals for him. Piano and Art had carried over from previous bibles, but was allocated to "things his father wants from him"

Adrien still has a bit of a bitter personality. He is still very Felix.

Him and Marinette are explicitly lined as friends. This is wildly different from the later bibles, which change this line to...

Adrien's "miraculous" is actually his cane. not his ring.

Adrien was also meant to have a better relationship with Fu, and seemed to even admire him.

Gabriel was far more interested in Adrien's wellbeing than he seems to be in the current show

Adrien (Felix) had a bad leg and was studying to be a doctor. Except he's really good at art.

Felix Fathom, whom Ladybug considered a traitor and to whom she flies to London to get information about the Monarch’s identity, turns out to be the owner of the Peacock miraculous. He gives her a senti-device, with which she makes sure that most of the people around her (except for her, Felix, and a few others) are replaced with sentimonsters. It was to fix this that Felix made a deal with her enemy and got a miraculous that could help them understand where the real people had gone and who was behind it.

Felix become Chat Noir to gain the freedom from the curse that he has on him and as far as the canon PV goes, that’s all his motivation to become Chat Noir : Get close to Ladybug so he can get kiss from her to free him from the curse.

This is why I think his “extraness or cheerfulness” when being Chat Noir isn’t all genuine like Adrien does therefore, the way he approach Bridgette also different.

I have a HC where in Felix’s eyes, Bridgette is a crime magnet, one that constantly make him frustrated because “How in the world she always find herself in this place, time and situation???????!” (Lol) But she’s the frustration that he just can’t ignore, not only because she’s his classmate but also because she always help him in school so he’s??? In short of debt???? (He does care for her, he just doesn’t want to admit it)

So time and time again, Chat Noir need to keep this girl, who’s badluck somehow always led her to this situation (it’s not lmao), out of trouble and I can imagine he just vent all his frustation at her and be like :

“I am the black cat, but why, WHY, HOW can you have more bad luck than me?????????” (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ

And Bridgette, being can’t tell the cat the real reason why she /need/ to be there could only be like :

“Because… I’m a bad luck champion?” (• ▽ •;)

For Bridgette seeing Chat Noir being all grumpy is a side that she never see before because for all she know, Chat Noir is a catsanova who always have terrible time to flirt and a jokester, basically your typical class clown. Sure he can be sweet at times but grumpy? Chat Noir? Grumpy? Grumpy Chat Noir, who??????? It feels like alien take over his body and it baffle her at first but the more she see it, the more she find this side of him is interesting. Because as it turns out not only this cat could be grumpy, he also… Pretty socially awkward??? Also he’s not that extra with her??? Huh??? Where’s that catsanova act?? And she find Chat Noir is more fun to hang out with when he’s not dial up his dramatical extraness. Soon, they become a friend’s.

There’s lots of things in their dynamic that I see similiar as you described. If you don’t mind, I’d like to add:

Chat Noir not only being grumpy and socially awkward, but also being more open to show Félix’s interests in topics that one wouldn’t expect of him (I think he has trash taste in romance and anime for example). CN learns that Bri has some weird preferences herself and thinks he can defend himself with this against her, but he never needs to because she is very open to many topics and doesn’t judge. Over time he feels more comfortable in sharing his trash tastes which he would never never never do as Félix.

Bri’s room is full of little trinkets, photos, design ideas, self-made stuff, bullet lists, etc. At first CN is overwhelmed by this colourful chaos but after a while - at times where he has to wait for Bri doing something downstairs -  he starts to walk around her room as if it was a museum, examining all her terribly interesting things, pondering at some exhibits, what those are even supposed to mean. Her room is a bottomless pit of fascinating scattered troves.

CN is quite bad at acting cool and distanced around Bri because she knows how to tease him or get a reaction out of him. However, when he’s genuinely serious (for example in a dangerous situation or when Bri doesn’t respond to CN’s usual way of talking in a serious matter) Bri actually does think - a tiny little bit - that he’s cool (it subconsciously reminds her of Félix (it is still an innate part of his personality so he can’t really not be like that at times)) and her kokoro goes a little doki-doki   and it confuses her, because Chat Noir is not cool, he’s a silly kitty clown.
