Stand and Stare

There’s a particular kind of quiet that only shows up once you stop looking for it.

Mindfulness isn’t only found in silence or scenic retreats. Sometimes it looks like this: taking a moment and letting the low hum of the vessel and the open sky become your meditation. No need to escape the machinery, the duties, or the endless horizon. Simply notice. Simply be.

Tracks, a blade, an engine, all of it seized solid. A thing made to move the earth, holding still while the earth quietly takes it back.

Sat across the water from this for a while, a building that still has its doors, still has its shape, still stands square to a job nobody’s asked it to do in years. It doesn’t look sad to me. It looks like it’s waiting without minding that nothing’s coming.
