i don't think i'll ever get over the fact that die-hard cooper fans who deny that he was ever attracted to audrey are truly missing out on some of the most compelling parts of his character. yes, cooper is generally supposed to be this embodiment of "good", but that doesn't mean he can't have - for lack of a better word - impure thoughts. cooper clearly finds audrey physically attractive from their first meeting (grapefruits, hello?) despite recognizing that she's young enough for him to have to ask her age a couple episodes later, which i truly believe he is asking for the sole purpose of gauging exactly how inappropriate his feelings are/how far he can push the boundaries with her. i also think his "well, see you later, audrey," was written as a tongue in cheek way of him saying that sucks, maybe next year! but idk if people are ready for that conversation.
he continues to engage in flirting with her before she confirms she is in fact a legal adult - which i honestly think people love to wilfully ignore in order to throw the word "minor" around like some gotcha moment - but it's then in spite of his attraction to her that he turns down her advances later on. rather than him just saying no because he is simply a one-dimensional Good Guy, there's this added layer of the fact that he's making this conscious decision to go against his own desires for her in order to protect her, which i think says far more about him and is way more interesting than him being good just for the sake of it.

i think tone has something to do with the feeling of misogyny. a marked tone of farce has crept in with rhaenyraâs scenes of governance that was not there with viserys, whose council scenes were largely played with great gravitas. there might be darkly ludicrous moments, but not farce. aegon gets there a bit more, but it is rhaenyra, not either of them, who gets an entire bottle episode entirely devoted to her attempts to reign that was labeled as like âsuccessionâ or âveepâ in tone, a strained tone of humor - in a show whose tone previously had very little in common with either show. rhaenyra ruling is ridiculous to the showâs gaze in a way her male predecessors was not, and calls for various narrative tools that feel desperate to demonstrate it.
