musicians are startups too

The parallel's not hard to draw.

Musicians meet organically a lot of the time and decide to work for little/no money on a project they're passionate about. They define their band sound. Sometimes they're in more than one band. They have to get their product ready to launch and work to tighten their show up. They research to see who would be interested in buying their talent. Friends and family are their early adopters/investors. They have to figure out which markets they'll do well in and figure out how to scale their product to those markets. They want to be known nationally and some even want international fame. They don't sleep much. They work tirelessly to realize the dream of making something that really connects with and moves the people. "How can I make money at this music thing and quit my soul sucking job??!?!?!" is often the plea in some form or another. They think they're pretty damn good but often have concerns about growing beyond the home front. Beyond the coast or mid 'Merica.

They're weekend warriors traveling to shows and getting back to town for work. They dream of the day they can full-time pursue their passion. They drink beer. Sometimes even the good stuff. They get high off of applause and drunken fans dropping praise after their set. They're stoked when more than 5 of the same folks show up to rock out with them. They have to plan and adapt in the moment to grow. They often try to attract the ever elusive manager. A manager who believes in them as much as they believe in themselves and won't rip them off. Someone with actual connections, who can coach in the moment and help boost their product to the next level.

Bands want to make it. To be a household name. To sway the crowds and get paid enough to eat, sleep, buy new gear, write new tunes, and get to the next crowd. The risks get steeper the older the musician. Stability somethin somethin, grow up somethin somethin. Stop chasin dreams. Get a career or at least a job with benefits. Regular hours. Start a family. You know, the whole white picket fence bit. Sometimes that speak comes from a significant other who has been pretty patient up till now. Or maybe you thought you've had a pretty good run at this thing and it wouldn't be so bad to let the music fire smolder and enter a new phase.

It takes A LOT of guts to choose an alternative route in life. We see you. Or more importantly maybe, we hear you. We want to be able to provide something to help you along this uncharted journey.
