Do Chibi Spinneraki!

I wrote this on my twt but I want to say it here too. I want to explore Spinner's admiration of Tomura and his power because I think in some ways it was problematic. I can't help thinking how Tomura's perception of himself as being made to destroy was fueled by Spinner's admiration for the crumbling horizon he made in Deika. By the end of the war, Tomura says that he wants to build the horizon Spinner's looking forward to, and that seems to be a big motivator for him. Both Spinner and their shared goal, as he's mentioning Spinner more than anyone and wanting his League to have what they want. Tomura wanted to be a hero to the League (more importantly Spinner for this post) but his means to becoming a hero to them was destructive to himself. Tomura needed a friend, and he needed someone to reach out their hand to him (and be his hero in a way). Unfortunately Spinner wasn't able to reach out his hand because he underestimated the stakes at hand and his importance to Tomura. Spinner didn't believe he meant more than anyone else to Tomura because the oppression he's faced in his life riddles his perception about himself. Spinner is also so desperate to prove himself worthy and be seen, he wanted Tomura's appreciation and to contribute to the cause he and Tomura believed in. He wanted to contribute in any way he could, because he was so desperate to prove to everyone and himself that he's not a nobody or worthless and that he's beyond how everybody has treated and viewed him his whole life. Tomura used Spinner's words in his speech to dr. garaki, and he greatly sympathized with Spinner, Tomura made him feel useful and made him feel important. So Spinner desperately chased that feeling, and idealized Tomura as a figure of gratification where he could prove his worth. This is also accentuated by the fact that Tomura brought about the idea of his ideal world (destroyed and flattened) and that they were similar in both pasts and interests. So Spinner put Tomura on a pedestal and mentally distanced himself from Tomura, believing that following and fulfilling their endgoal was how he could prove himself useful to everyone, himself, and Tomura. Spinner wasn't able to recognize that the best way to be useful to Tomura was to reach out to him, instead getting lost in fulfilling his and Tomura's shared goal. Something he regrets severely later on. I know us Spinneraki fans enjoy the idea of Tomura being Spinner's 'hero' but I think what needed to happen to save them both was for Spinner to be a 'hero' for Tomura. Since thats kind of what Tomura always needed. Of course, Spinner could never consider himself such because he's been a victim for the majority of his life and wanted/needed a hero instead.
