3 week build season update!
we survived the hellhole of finals and still going strong :> prototyping the drive-train and manipulator is under way, and meanwhile PR and media have been working on outreach, team gear, and the fedex challenge.

This is the Shrek is Love, Shrek is Life of FIRST
Stop whatever you’re doing right now, stop scrolling, put down that iced tea, and watch this.
Questions I have asked so far during build season: “But what type of rock is it?!”
I bet they’re metamorphic since they’re formed by the same pressure that they put all FRC kids under.

How well do you think a robot without wheels would work
Treads seem to be the way a lot of people are looking, but they are heavy and expensive (I recently heard that on amazon treads are back ordered for three weeks already?). I think a robot on skis might have trouble getting across some defenses, but definitely not the moat. A robot with legs would definitely be ideal, though.
People are really not thinking through the treads and just operating on stereotypes.
Treads suck when it comes to tractive force on smooth surfaces such as carpet or the defenses. They only shine when it comes to surfaces that have squish, like dirt, where they produce interference rather than friction. You can achieve the same no-dead-zones-on-the-bot effect by using lots of wheels, and suffer less losses. Also, weight, cost, and complexity.
Treads get ran on tanks and tractors because they operate in such squishy environments and the increased surface area means pressure is decreased, so you don’t get into sinkholes and suffer losses from deforming the ground.

Heeeeeey! I'm presenting chairman's for my team for the first time this year and I was wondering if you had any tips?
Hey there! Lauren, Rachel and I were in the same boat too! First of, I just want to say it’s very brave of you to step up and do the Chairman’s presentation for your team. It’s such an honor and you should be proud of yourself :)
I don’t really know what approach you’re going for but general tips, try not to memorize your script word for word. If you’re really passionate about what you’re saying, your words should flow freely and the judges will be able to see the excitement in your eyes.
What i found helpful too was practicing it a ton of times. Recite it over and over to get the hang of what you want to say.
For content stuff, try covering things you didn’t mention in your essay or pamphlets, something the judges will not see in the things you’ve submitted. Either that or try reinforcing the ideas in there. Use your voice to bring some excitement and passion.
Also, have a coach, another veteran member, previous chairman’s presenter or an alumni quiz you with some questions. Go over your script again. (You want to refrain from putting wayyy too many details in your speech or it will take a lot of time) See where you could probably have said more on and then try to formulate that as a possible question. Go over the ideas in your essay. See where you can expand on.
Don’t forget to smile! Oh and it helps to jump around and do some freestyle dancing right before presenting to get the nervousness away. Well, er, some people were staring at us (I mean, who wouldn’t when you see three girls doing a very bad impression of Gangnam style mixed with Cotton Eye Joe while doing the Cha Cha slide?) but it made us feel a lot better and I wasn’t shaking too much while presenting
Hope this helps! :) Feel free to ask us again if you still need assistance with anything! Preparing for this presentation was tough work (*cough Lauren, *cough cough*) but it really paid off in the end :)

With Chairman’s work coming up, I thought I’d reblog some of our resources!
Here are more Chairman's Presentation tips
because MEGAN (cough cough) stole the ask I was trying to answer (ily meeg)
Here are some more tips! They might be repetitive because I didn’t read Megan’s response yet lol
