So before I write all this I just wanna say that I was drawing for the sake of drawing, and the ideas sorta came with it, I’m not super attached to any of them staying exactly as I’m writing them
Drums would be entirely support, and only really usable if you have a club or fist as your main hand weapon. Anything else in the main hand and you would just attack normally.
Basically they would buff nearby allies, or debuff enemies. You could maybe learn different songs, like how Forstyll has a few songs he plays on the pipes that do different things. Maybe the songs would come from what you play with (main hand weapon).
So I think most people agree that it’s a little weird that as a master of casting fireballs, our characters can’t remember the two words on the scroll that need to be said. It would also be OP as shit to be able to cast spells without having any scrolls.
I think a good compromise is to have a skill to learn how to channel the scroll’s magic through a staff. You’ll get infinite casts from a single scroll, but at the cost of your main hand weapon slot. Attacking with it would cast the spell that you have set to the staff; probably crafted into the staff by an NPC (purple lady on the far right), similar to Magerlin focusing your school. If you’re not a high enough level in magic and/or that spell, you wouldn’t be able to use it just like you can’t use a mino axe at level 2 axe skill.
If you hold it in your off hand, it could just give a base increase to your chance to save scrolls, like the csash.
Goblins could be semi passive, meaning you can fight them like regular enemies, but they won’t attack you unless you attack them or a nearby goblin first. My idea is that they’re peaceful and for the most part have their own language, like orcs, but also speak broken english (so they can have their own NPC without totally stealing Gurun’s comp thing).
If anyone has poly’d into a bat and then gone into the bat cave, you’ll know that none of the bats aggro until you attack one first, which is basically what I mean by semi passive.
I think they should be about as strong as satyrs (maybe skeles if they were meant for a new high level area, but I think the world needs more mid level areas), the challenge coming from them grouping up on you.
Warrior/Fighter/Generic name for something that hits you with stuff:
Same as we’ve always had, thing that attacks you and you attack it back.
Uses staves, basically orc shamans. I think they could use a generic staff (justified by them being inherently magical creatures or whatever) and cast whatever spells they have on them with it. I dunno if having them stay a moderate distance away and exclusively cast at you would be viable, so maybe they’d have an offhand weapon also to actually fight you.
The player can take the generic staves and get the NPC to shove a glowing scroll in its staff butt so that you can actually use it to cast a spell. Humans are idiots though and we can barely read/write (we don’t even have eyes), so we’d only be able to cast that one spell (or school) specified assuming we also know the spell well enough on its own.
Like those civil war kids. They just run around playing their drums to keep their goblin buddies buffed and the enemies pissing on themselves aka debuffed.
