context: my party is playing through the Mines of Phandelver module with only the most minor of spoilers, and we just encountered the Nothic in the Redbrandâs base. My character, a slightly sociopathic dragonborn sorcerer, wants to solve the problem diplomatically if possible.
DM: you see a huge, terrifying monster covered in spikes and ridges. As you see it, it looks back at you with itâs one giant eye and begins to grin with itâs razor-sharp teeth.
Me: ⌠Hello new friend!
The rest of the party: *slightly concerned grumble*
DM: oooâŚkay, well, you hear a voice in your head, and it says:
The rest of the party: *louder concerned noises*
Me: Oh, youâre hungry? I have some rations you can have!
Nothic: Noooo ratiooons. Ooonly Corpses.
The rest of the party: *even louder, more concerned noises*
Me: oh, we killed some bandits in self-defense earlier! You can have their corpses, we werenât using them for anything anyway, and thereâs no reason to let good meat go to waste!
DM (ooc): ⌠your character IS good isnât he?
Me (ooc): yeah. Chaotic good. Sure, itâs gross, but hey, theyâre already dead and heâs not religious. To him, this is just solving one problem with another and nothing more. Nothics gotta eat too, you know.
The rest of the party: *more concerned noises as they begin to catch on that my character is only barely able to be considered good in any sense of the word*
DM: okay, uh, the rest of the party now walks forward, seeing the⌠well, the whole scene unfolding here and hearing the conversation, and the Nothic saysâŚ
Nothic: oooooh. Fresh corpses.
The rest of the party: *loud concerned noises*
Me: ohoho, nonono, those are my friends! They arenât corpses! Yet!
The rest of the party: *extremely loud concerned noises*
