In retrospect, consider the number 1 thing every grade-schooler knows about plants is they take in light, the idea they might be able to see should not wreck my shit as hard as it does

What's REALLY weird about this is that there's no clear advantage to doing it. If they'd evolved to mimick a certain other plant specifically, that'd be one thing, but just whatever is near them is seemingly pointless. It's not just that they're doing something we didn't know they could do, it's that they're doing it for absolutely no benefit that we can hypothesize.

it's not necessarily difficult to find music in languages you don't speak fluently, but it is difficult to branch out and find music you like. and so if you're not careful you either end up wading through music you hate or only really exposing yourself to like, the david bowies and the beatles of the world. which is not in itself a bad thing because who would complain about only listening to charles aznavour and stromae? and yet you are still stuck only knowing charles aznavour and stromae.

I think the reason I still enjoy tumblr is that even though this all still pisses me off, I know that anything that makes me mad on here is 100% earnest. It's not ragebait or engagement farming, y'all are actually just that stupid sometimes

My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
