Thunderstorms. The small tremble Eddie used to have in his hands during stormy, rainy days before splitting himself in half manifested itself in his taller counterpart as outright anxiety. It was easier to manage during the evening, since Volt was a professional and presented his host persona perfect to a tee and neither power fluctuations nor thunder could shake him. He seemed fine, at least. But when Eddie looked at him – a tight crinkle at the eye, hands shoved in pockets or put elegantly behind his back so the slight shake won’t be visible, – Eddie saw that.

And Eddie would close the Breaker Box early, and he would change and go to bed, waiting for his partner. And Volt would come – his shoulders sloping, coat left hanging on the door to their room, the usual mischievous gleam in his eyes replaced with something vulnerable and almost childish in nature. Mask off. Eddie would shift, making place for him, while thunder boomed outside, leaving goosebumps on Volt’s skin in it’s wake; and he would climb in the bed and put his head on Eddie’s chest, listening to the low hum of his essence. Another rumble. Volt’s hair flickers.

"I don’t want to go out, Eddie…" he whispers, barely audible.

"You won’t." Volt feels Eddie’s deep voice vibrating in his chest. "It’s okay. You’re okay. Sleep."

And he believes him. Volt falls asleep, his long fingers gripping Eddie’s shirt, brows pursed slightly. And Eddie holds him and cradles through his hair until the very morning, until the thunder is gone.
