Written Photography Assignment for Comm Tech
1) What are some common outdoor safety issues for photographers (e.g., gravity, temperature, water, footing, wind, dust, wildlife, hunting season). How would an outdoor photographer explore ways to prepare for and respond to these issues successfully?Â
Common outdoor safety issues include weather, temperature, wind, wildlife, gravity, etc. Some ways outdoor photographers can prepare or respond to these safety issues include: If you’re taking pictures in a provincial park, finding out from park officials where it’s okay to take pictures and where it might be too dangerous to take photos is probably in your best interest. Some other ways are looking and making sure the place your going to be shooting is safe, no crumbling ground, no chance of a sudden flood out of nowhere. Don’t go out onto a frozen lake and expect to be safe from the elements, you could fall through and drown. Don’t expect to be able to take an awesome shot off the side of a cliff without safety gear or a guide, probably going to die if you don’t take some precautions.
 2) What are some equipment issues a photographer may face when shooting outdoors? How would you prepare for and respond to these issues? (Think about weather conditions, moisture and condensation, battery and storage capacity, etc.)
Equipment issues photographers could face are, battery not working because it’s too hot (I know this from experience), sometimes if you’re in a warm/hot location your lens could fog up. Your tripod could get stuck, or break. If my battery wouldn’t work from it being too cold, I would either A) take out the battery and warm it up manually. Or B) it’s probably to cold for me as well and should go back inside. If my lens fogged up, wipe the lens. If it continued to happen I would have to wait till it stopped fogging up to try and take a picture or find some way to make it fog proof. Rain, just go back inside or find shelter. If there was a thunderstorm, I would just go home. If I ran out of memory in my camera, I would either have a back up on me (like I normally do) or when I reached max capacity, I would go home.Â
