Well, isn’t this a surprise ?

Except it is not so much as they more often reunites like this when Seto is busy ( which is almost all of the time ). Granted, even he has to admit that this is a change of pace he would not mind having, above all of the proposals and deadlines he is crushing for the new grand opening of Duelist Leagues Championship due in two months.

He gingerly raises his wrist to check his opulent watch, and really acknowledges how the time must have flown. Can’t really blame Atem for taking the initiative. Leaning back against his office chair, Seto then rests his hand on Atem’s waist and exhales a small sigh, letting Atem does whatever he wants in his own ... feline-like behavior. 

   ❝ Don’t ruin the moment ❞ He whispers, nuzzling him. Nuzzling on his chest.

There he was, happy, hugging him now. The pharaoh is pleased.

No fucking way he’s going to get only a kiss on his shoulder. He grabbed him by the jacket to make him remain down, raised his head and kissed him on the lips.

   ❝ I want to kiss … ❞

   ❝ I’m dressed up as a pharaoh. ❞

   ❝ Or a lazy man. Now is when Kaiba can call me cosplayer. But just today. Tomorrow I’ll crush him. ❞

   ❝ Oh yeah I forgot to say… HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Or something. ❞

Literally sends Kaiba a shiny gold souvenir of himself on a stand where it says: “I win.” And then under, as promised, “for the spectacular overachiever Seto Kaiba”

Huh. What do you know ? The pharaoh does dab into the arts and crafts, after all.

Seto holds the souvenir in his hand, idly turning and angling it to have a better view at the engraving. He had half-expected Atem to produce this out of cheap plastic and resin, and fully expected it not to be taken seriously at all. Then again, he really did have his own way of surprising Seto in their banters .. and it was about time when one of theirs come in a rather physical form of a rather lavish model aiming to take a jab at the other. He doesn’t know if it’s pettiness or just genuine bantering spirit on his part.

That being said, Seto wouldn’t exactly refuse such a model and praise made in his name, whether Atem intends to take it seriously or not. Gold is gold and .. whatever. If Atem thinks he’s getting the last word in this banter, he is sorely mistaken.

Yugi scrambles into the room with a small, one person cake balanced precariously on a plate. “Fuck, sorry! I know your birthday was yesterday but I got tied up with classes, so uh, happy birthday!”

Immediately when the draft flits into the room by the opening of his door, Seto lifts his gaze ever so slightly to meet the clumsy, panicking form of his former classmate. Despite the haphazard entrance made, it doesn’t affect a whit of his composed expression he so precariously forged under his control .. in fact, he had rather predicted Yugi and his bunch of friends to be less than graceful bunches. 

Although .. when the vulgar word flies out of Yugi Mutou’s mouth as though it was the most natural thing for him to say .. that’s when his brows quirk a little.

Mokuba curses, of course, but Seto is very much used to that ever since the boy hits ten.

Silently, he attributes his own surprise to the fact that he had mostly confronted the Pharaoh and rarely on a prolonged confrontation with the host body. That, and his knowledge of Yugi during their high school days was that Yugi had been a bit on the easy-to-pick-on pushover side. Kind of like Ryou Bakura ( but even he, was all outer appearances in that regard ). Dismissing his own in-head analysis, Seto drifts his attention towards the cake for the barest of second. Never before had he considered himself as part of Yugi’s nerd patrol, but there were occassions when they, or moreso Yugi Mutou himself, acted like he was.

He supposed his words had, so far, fallen on death ears.

And it was due to their unfortunate .. entanglement with Egyptian hooplahs and trinkets, and mutual bond with Atem that convinced Seto not to kick the boy straight out of his office.

       “Oh, but of course. Would you like ‘the spectacular overachiever Seto Kaiba’ engraved on it too?”

Atem appears near him and kisses his cheek. ❝ Happy birthday, dumbass ♥ ❞

The light, feathery kiss suddenly placed upon his cheek causes Seto to come a halt to whatever he was doing. For the barest of second, his fingers slacken around the fountain pen he was holding, but kudos to his meticulous grip, even that isn’t enough to cause him to send the writing instrument tumbling and clattering onto the table, which might have caused a little ink spill over a paragraph on the developmental analysis of Duel Links integrated and collective consciousness. It was when Atem opens his mouth when Seto’s following question was answered without it even leaving his mouth. So it was his birthday. Oh. Right.

Usually his employees would wait for until after office hours to unveil the extravagant party and sky parade made in his name ( and it happened around five times now ).

But Atem really does whatever he wants, doesn’t he ?

A casual quirk of his brow in Atem’s grinning direction, and Seto sets down his pen before the Cheshire cat makes a further mess out of it. He ignores the dumbass comment because such half-hearted jabs are second nature to their banters now. 〞You really are bold to be interrupting my work. Not even my secretary dares to try. What makes you think you’re special, huh ? 〞 Granted, said secretary would have received more than just an exasperated light-hearted jab. It does help that Atem’s presence is often rather .. enchanting and comfortable, capable of stirring the most dormant of emotions within him without making Seto feel the urge to crush it with his bare hands. Time helped. Not so much when it first started but it eventually helped. Lightly, his own curious fingers left the desk and walks up along Atem’s hand, along the almost real flesh, until it grips around Atem’s wrist. 

〞There will be a company celebration later, as I am informed, 〞he starts, sounding as cool and collected as he always does despite the inner conflict within his chest, struggling to prioritize his own work over some rather bewitching personal affairs ( Atem is going to be the death of him, he swears ). 

With a skillful and calculated tug on said caught wrist, he brings Atem forward until their lips tap against each other in a swift, chaste motion of a kiss. Seemingly an accident to the unobservant but the ghost of a smirk left on Seto leaves more opened questions that he would never answer. Once he got what he wanted, he released Atem and let out a small scoff.

       “Uh huh. Do you want me to brush the stardust off your shoulder for you?”

       “That explains why you’re not down-to-earth.” He remarks with a complacent smile.

       …        No, no. He’s got a point.

       “Fair. I will do my best not to roast you too much today. But that doesn’t mean your ego should skyrocket too much either.”
