            𝚂𝚄𝙽𝙻𝙸𝙶𝙷𝚃   𝙲𝚁𝙴𝙴𝙿𝚂   𝚃𝙷𝚁𝙾𝚄𝙶𝙷   𝚃𝙷𝙴   thin   curtains   ,   casting   a   soft   glow   over   the   room.   rust   stirs   ,   half   -   awake   feeling   the   warmth   of   the   morning   on   his   skin.   his   body   aches   in   a   way   that   wasn't   unpleasant   -  more   of   a   reminder   of   the   night   before   ,   the   weight   of   it   hanging   in   the   air   like   a   lingering   scent.   his   arm   drapes   over   snow   ,   fingers   resting   against   her.   he   could   feel   the   steady   rhythm   of   her   breathing   beneath   his   touch.   for   a   moment   ,   he   lays   there   ,   eyes   half   -   lidded   ,   staring   at   the   ceiling   and   letting   his   thoughts   drift.   the   quiet   apartment   wrapped   around   him   ,   broken   only   by   the   occasional   sound   from   outside.   it's   a   strange   sort   of   peace   ,   one   that   he   wasn't   used   to   ,   not   in   the   way   it   settles   in   his   chest   like   an   unfamiliar   guest.   he   refuses   to   move   ,   something   in   him   had   finally   given   in   last   night.   something   that   had   been   coiling   tight   for   far   too   long.   the   kiss   —   the   heat   between   them   ,   had   been   inevitable.   his   lips   still   tingle   with   the   memory   of   her   taste   ,   whiskey   mingling   with   cherry.

            𝙲𝙰𝚁𝙴𝙵𝚄𝙻   𝙽𝙾𝚃   𝚃𝙾   𝚆𝙰𝙺𝙴   her   ,   he   shifts   moving   slowly   as   he   turns   his   head   to   steal   a   glance.   snow's   dark   hair   fans   out   over   the   pillow   ,   her   face   softened   by   sleep   ,   her   breath   steady   and   quiet.   she   looks   peaceful.   more   at   ease   than   he'd   ever   seen   her   ,   and   that   thought   made   something   stir   in   his   chest.    it   was   strange   —   waking   up   like   this.   rust   wasn’t   used   to   it.   the   gentle   intimacy   of   the   moment   felt   heavy   ,   like   a   thin   thread   tying   him   to   something   deeper   than   he’d   meant   to   reach   for.

            𝙷𝙴   𝙻𝙴𝚃   𝙾𝚄𝚃   𝙰   quiet   breath   ,   barely   more   than   a   whisper   of   air   ,   as   he   carefully   attempted   to   slide   out   from   under   the   sheets.   each   moment   was   slow   ,   refusing   to   disturb   her   slumber.   he   sits   up   slowly   ,   muscles   protesting   as   he   swings   his   legs   over   the   side   of   the   bed.   his   feet   unite   with   the   cool   floor   ,   and   for   a   second ,   he   just   sits   there   ,   elbows   resting   on   his   knees   ,   staring   at   the   floorboards   like   they   held   the   answers   to   whatever   the   hell   he’d   gotten   himself   into.   part   of   him   wanted   to   bolt.   the   other   part   —   well   ,   the   other   part   was   still   feeling   the   echo   of   snow’s   breath   against   his   lips   ,   the   way   her   forehead   had   rested   against   his   ,   as   if   they’d   both   needed   to   anchor   themselves   in   that   moment. 

                   𝐬𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭   𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝   𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡   𝐡𝐞𝐫   𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝   𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐬   ,   snow   stirred   slightly.   the   warmth   the   bed   provided   made   it   tempting   to   stay   nestled   between   the   sheets.   snow   felt   rust's   hand   brushing   against   her   cheek   before   she   opens   her   eyes   ,   his   touch   is   soft   ,   sending   a   shiver   down   her   spine.   her   lips   curved   into   a   sleepy   smile   ,   heart   skipping   as   his   voice   ,   low   and   gruff   ,   reached   her   ears.

                    𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰   𝐤𝐞𝐩𝐭   𝐡𝐞𝐫   𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬   𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐝   𝐚   moment   longer   ,   savoring   the   sound   of   his   voice.   it   was   a   rare   occurrence   to   hear   rust   so   ...   soft.   the   edges   of   the   night   blur   into   something   dreamlike   –   heat   and   desire   blended   with   a   level   of   comfort   she   hadn't   expected   from   him.   last   night   was   meant   to   be   playful   ,   a   dance   of   words   ,   but   now   lying   here   with   him   ,   it   feels   like   something   else   entirely.

                    𝐬𝐡𝐞   𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝   𝐡𝐞𝐫   𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬   ,   𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠   𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭   the   morning   light.   with   a   smirk   she   meets   rust's   gaze.   "princess?"   she   repeated   lazily.   snow   nestled   further   into   the   mattress   ,   enjoying   the   slight   ache   in   her   muscles   –   a   reminder   of   just   how   close   they'd   gotten.   "didn't   know   you   had   it   in   you   to   be   so   sweet."   her   teasing   doesn't   mask   the   warmth   pooling   in   her   chest.   men   looked   at   snow   ,   but   none   of   them   looked   at   her   the   way   rust   did.   there   was   something   more   than   just   desire   ,   it   made   her   heart   beat   a   little   faster.   snow   was   never   the   type   to   linger   in   moments   like   this   ,   she   refused   to   hide   onto   the   quiet   intimacy   of   the   morning   after   ,   but   rust   had   a   way   of   making   her   want   to   stay.

                    𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰   𝐰𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝   𝐚𝐬   𝐡𝐞   𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐝   back   on   his   elbow.   his   silhouette   outlined   by   the   soft   sunlight   streaming   through   the   window.   for   a   brief   moment   ,   her   fingers   itched   to   reach   out   and   pull   him   down   beside   her   ,   keep   him   close   just   a   little   while   longer.   but   something   told   her   that   whatever   this   was   ,   needed   more   time   to   breathe.   just   as   he   leaned   in   closer   ,   snow   shot   up   her   hand   ,   pressing   against   his   face   with   playful   force.   "whoa   ,   not   so   fast   cowboy."   she   teased   pushing   him   back   a   bit.   "i   got   gnarly   morning   breath."   snow   raised   her   eyebrows   ,   laughter   bubbled   up   in   her   chest.   she's   eager   to   make   the   moment   lighter.

idle fingers traced at the blushed petals lining its lengthy stem, tracing the heart-shaped outlines of its flowers. a feat of nature, surely proof of souls resting more than just within mankind, but in the brush, too. manon figured they might as well get out today, as local weather reporters forecasted an upcoming autumn gloom approaching the upper quadrant of washington state — nothing foreign, nor unexpected, yet still it invoked a deep, internal sigh within them. the turning of the season brought out a new side of manon, perhaps its newness prompted a sense of urgency, pecking at their brain to seek the comfort only soothed by the warmth of companionship before everyone turned to reclusion, so as to not constantly shovel snow from the pavement. " bleedin' heart. " they muttered, half to themselves, half to the person now caught in the crossfire of her attention. " — the flowers. they're - they're called that. colloquially, at least. there's a story about how they first bloomed. such a sad story about somethin' so beautiful. " a shrug. " do you ... do you like flowers ? "

                   𝐭𝐡𝐞   𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭   𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦   𝐭𝐡𝐞   𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞   𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐬   in   bathed   the   room   in   a   golden   glow.   the   air   inside   was   think   with   the   scent   of   woodsmoke   and   outside   the   first   hint   of   autumn   pressed   against   the   windows.   snow   watched   manon   with   a   soft   smile   as   she   cradled   a   warm   mug   in   her   hands.   her   gaze   dropped   to   the   flowers   ;   eyes   traced   their   delicate   shape.   "yeah,   i’ve   heard   the   story,"   she   murmured   thoughtfully.   "beautiful   things   always   seem   to   have   the   saddest   stories."   snow   set   her   mug   down   on   the   table   with   a   soft   clink.   "flowers   are   something,   fragile   but   they   survive   through   it   all."   snow   leaned   back   in   her   chair,   "yeah   i   like   them.   not   that   i'm   any   good   at   keeping   them   alive.   i   have   a   bad   habit   of   overwatering   them."   she   shook   her   head.   "what   about   you   ?   do   you   have   a   house   full   of   plants   that   actually   thrive   ?"

              𝖿𝖾𝖾𝗅𝗂𝗇𝗀   𝗍𝗁𝖾   𝗁𝖾𝖺𝗍   𝖻𝖾𝗍𝗐𝖾𝖾𝗇   them   her   lips   and   his   almost   unbearable.   the   challenge   in   her   tone   is   tempting.   "   you   think   i'm   gonna   fold   that   easy   ?   "   his   voice   drops   a   tenor   ,   a   gravelly   whisper.   that   kind   that   vibrated   through   the   space   weaving   between   them.   his   hand   finds   it's   way   to   her   jawline   ,   just   barely   grazing   her   skin.   fingers   trace   a   slow   path.   his   thumb   hovers   a   over   her   lips   painted   a   delicious   shade   of   ruby   ;   teasing   without   quite   touching.   "   i've   dealt   with   worse   than   a   few   sweet   words   ,   snow.   you   gotta   do   more   than   that   if   you   want   me   to   bite.   "

                𝗃𝗎𝗌𝗍   𝖻𝗒   𝖺   𝖿𝗋𝖺𝖼𝗍𝗂𝗈𝗇   more   ,   he   leans   in.   their   breath   mixing   close   enough   that   he   could   feel   the   warmth   radiating   off   her   skin.   "   but   don't   get   me   wrong   ,   "   his   lips   curl   into   a   smirk   ,   eyes   darkening   as   he   studies   her   face.   "   when   i   make   a   move   …   i   don't   hesitate.   "   the   tension   is   electric.   he   lets   it   simmer   ,   letting   her   feel   the   weight   of   it   ,   he   liked   watching   the   anticipation   build.   rust   could   play   her   game   her   way   if   she   wanted   ,   wondering   if   he'd   go   further   or   hold   back.

                  𝐚   𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡   𝐢𝐬   𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭   𝐢𝐧   𝐡𝐞𝐫   lungs   with   rust   finally   gives   in.   the   kiss   igniting   a   flame   that   had   been   simmering   underneath   them   for   far   too   long.   manicured   hands   instinctively   move   to   his   chest.   her   fingers   curl   into   the   fabric   of   his   shirt   as   she   pulled   him   closer   ,   deepening   the   kiss.   it's   not   gentle   —    it's   heated.   raw   and   consuming.   the   taste   of   whiskey   and   the   faint   scent   of   him   mixed   with   the   soft   cherry   painted   on   her   lips.   the   combination   made   her   head   spin. 

                  𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰   𝐰𝐚𝐬   𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭   𝐢𝐧   𝐭𝐡𝐞   𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭   ,   in   the   feel   of   him.   the   way   his   rough   hand   cradles   the   back   of   her   neck.   he   held   her   deliberately   ;   as   if   he's   been   waiting   for   this   as   much   as   she   had.   her   body   presses   against   his   brute   frame.   it's   an   instinct.   the   tension   between   them   snapped   like   a   taut   wire.   it   left   nothing   but   urgency   of   their   need   for   one   another.   finally   ,   they   break   apart   ,   half   ajar   lips   breathe   into   his.   snow   rested   her   forehead   against   his   to   take   in   the   moment   to   just   exists   within   the   space   they've   created.   snow   felt   her   heart   throb   in   her   chest. 

                    𝐡𝐞𝐫   𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐬𝐞   𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝   𝐢𝐧   𝐡𝐞𝐫   𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬   ,   but   there's   a   contentment   settling   into   her   bones.   smudged   lipstick   curved   into   a   soft   smile   ,   eyes   still   half   closed.   her   fingers   trace   the   line   of   his   jaw.   "didn't   think   you'd   actually   bite,"   she   whispered   with   a   voice   barely   above   a   murmur.   she's   teasing   but   it   was   filled   with   a   warmth   that   had   been   absent   before.   she   lingered   for   just   a   moment   ,   urgent   to   savor   the   feel   of   him   against   her.   snow   slipped   her   hand   into   his   ,   tugging   him   gently   toward   the   bar   exit   with   a   knowing   look.

                  𝐭𝐡𝐞   𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭   𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬   𝐨𝐧   ,   𝐚   𝐛𝐥𝐮𝐫   of   soft   touches   and   heated   glances.   the   tension   between   them   melting   into   something   much   deeper   and   more   profound.   the   world   fades   to   black   and   the   two   of   them   are   left   in   the   quiet   intimacy   of   the   night.

                    “𝐲𝐨𝐮   𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰,   𝐢’𝐯𝐞   𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧   𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝   𝐚   lot   of   things,   but   ‘sad’   is   a   new   one,”   snow   replied,   a   playful   smile   tugging   at   her   lips   as   she   tilted   her   head ,   studying   mavi.   “but ,   hell ,   maybe   you’re   not   wrong.   long   day.”   she   stepped   forward ,   closer   now   ,   letting   her   arms   relax   at   her   sides.   “so   ,   drinks   ?   why   not.   could   use   a   little   something   to   take   the   edge   off.”   her   gaze   softened   slightly,   though   her   voice   still   carried   that   teasing   edge.   “i’ll   take   you   up   on   that   offer   if   you   can   keep   up.”

                   “𝐨𝐡   ,   𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭   𝐦𝐞   ,   𝐢’𝐯𝐞   𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝   𝐢𝐭   ,”   snow   smirked   ,   glancing   sideways   at   freya.   “i   just   haven’t   decided   if   i   want   to   make   it   a   full   spectacle   or   keep   it   classy   …   but   with   the   way   they   keep   dragging   it   out   ,   maybe   a   wild   divorce   party   is   exactly   what   i   need.”   she   gave   a   light   laugh   ,   her   eyes   flicking   to   the   magazine   on   the   newsstand.   “two   years   ,   and   they   still   can’t   get   enough.   small   towns   ,   right   ?   they   love   to   chew   on   the   same   bone   until   there’s   nothing   left.”   snow   sighed   ,   but   there   was   a   playful   spark   in   her   eyes.   “maybe   i’ll   even   invite   the   tabloids   to   the   party   —   give   them   something   new   to   write   about."   with   a   gentle   nudge   to   freya’s   shoulder   ,   she   added   ,   “but   enough   about   me   —   how   are   you   holding   up   with   all   the   chaos   at   work   ?”

                 𝐚   𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭   𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐞   𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐝   𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦   𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰.   "a   trickster   spirit   !?   well   ,   maybe   it's   just   the   universe's   way   of   keeping   things   interesting.   at   least   you're   making   an   entrance."   she   played   along   with   lorelai.   "supervision   sounds   like   a   solid   plan.   how   about   we   make   it   a   team   effort   —   you   keep   your   papers   safe   and   i   keep   an   eye   out   for   any   surprise   encounters   ?"   she   stepped   closer   ,   a   soft   smile   lingered   on   her   lips.   "seriously   though   ,   it's   good   to   see   you.   how's   everything   going   ?"   snow   tucked   a   few   strands   of   hair   behind   her   ear.   "i   haven't   been   so   good   at   checking   in."

he gives a sharp laugh, " ha ! it wouldn't be my drinks you're insulting. whatever bozo left behind the bar would be the victim. " that's all he says towards snow ; leaving the rest of the comments hanging in the air. though her having other things on the mind ... sparks a bit of intrigue behind dark eyes. wouldn't question her, not yet. keeps the taste of it locked beneath his tongue and whiskey's pleasant burn. " the frat boys definitely wouldn't be fit to your tastes, no. "

                    𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰   𝐠𝐚𝐯𝐞   𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐞   𝐚   𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠   𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐞.   she   was   careful   not   to   divulge   the   full   weight   of   whatever   was   swirling   in   her   mind   ,   not   yet.   "you're   right   ,   i'll   stick   with   the   company   that   doesn't   drown   itself   in   cheap   beer   and   bad   decisions."   her   fingers   absentmindedly   trace   the   rim   of   her   glass.   his   question   hung   in   the   air   ,   and   she   took   a   moment   ,   considering   how   much   she   wanted   to   say.   truth   is   ,   snow   didn't   always   have   a   grasp   on   the   thoughts   that   clouded   her   mind   ;   flashes   of   things   that   hadn't   happened   yet   ,   feelings   that   didn't   quite   belong.   snow   had   a   sharp   intuition   ,   almost   unnervingly   so   ,   and   often   snow   felt   like   she   was   seeing   pieces   of   a   puzzle   no   one   else   knew   existed.

                                        𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰'𝐬   𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐬   𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐝   𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨   𝐚   𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭   smile   ,   "oh   trust   me   ,   you   don't   strike   me   as   the   stress   shopping   type.   but   hey   ,   at   least   your   style's   got   character   ,"   she   teased   lightly.   "spiraling's   overrated   anyway.   glad   i   could   be   the   buffer   between   you   and   whatever   existential   crisis   you   had   lined   up."   snow   helped   herself   to   another   fry   ,   reveling   in   the   warm   crunch   it   provided.   "dating   apps   are   a   wiiiiild   world   ---   no   violence   ,   i   promise   ,   but   you   deserve   better   than   some   flake."   snow's   tone   softened   she   sounded   sincere.   charlie   had   an   earnestness   above   him   that   was   rare.   she   found   it   endearing.   "honestly   this   week's   been   a   mixed   bag."   she   admitted   with   a   sigh.   "it's   small   town   ,   everyone   knows   everything."   snow   rolled   her   eyes   ,   exasperated.   "but   i've   been   keeping   busy.   running   into   familiar   faces   and   apparently   helping   friends   not   eat   their   weight   in   food."   she   gave   him   a   playful   nudge.   "oh   i   know   you'd   just   love   to   live   vicariously   through   me   but   i'm   not   the   type   to   kiss   in   tell   ,   sorry   !"

                     𝐭𝐡𝐞   𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤   𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥   𝐠𝐚𝐯𝐞   𝐬𝐧𝐨𝐰   𝐢𝐬   one   she's   gotten   used   to   ;   pity   mixed   with   the   unease   of   not   knowing   what   to   say.   she   let   out   a   light   ,   almost   resigned   laugh.   snow   brushed   a   stray   strand   of   hair   behind   her   ear.   she   glanced   at   the   magazine   pearl   had   set   down.   "at   least   they   got   my   good   side."   snow   quipped   with   a   playful   lilt   in   her   voice.   however   ,   it   didn't   disguise   the   sting   beneath.   "don't   worry   about   it."   she   continued   with   a   casual   shrug.   "small   town   ,   big   news.   i   guess   if   i   had   to   pick   a   way   to   be   infamous   ;   this   isn't   the   worst   of   it.   it's   kind   of   a   relief"   her   smile   was   wry   ,   but   there's   warmth   somewhere   in   there.   she   inhales   a   breath   ,   "but   hey   ,   if   i   ever   need   tips   on   gardening   instead   of   dodging   gossip   i   know   who   to   come   to."   snow   winked.
