My boyfriend is triggered by Christmas and Christmas music. We were in a restaurant, and Christmas music was playing, and he started panicking so he went outside for a cigarette. The manager of the restaurant overheard him saying he had to get out, and changed the music over for the rest of the time we were there. There are safe spaces in the real world. Bunch of protests this weekend so here’s some added tips. Don’t officially sign up for them, many RSVP’s are a Terms of Service saying you will fully and quickly follow every direction an officer gives and protestors often do get arrested for a number of (bullshit) things. Signing proves you were there and may give up other rights you have depending the TOS. (Normally your right to sue if something bad happens.)

If you do sign one, make sure you are on your best behavior don’t want to risk everyone on the list because you were forced to jaywalk and the police start grabbing whoever is close for it. And now suddenly warrants are going out days later for more people.

Don’t fingerprint or face unlock your phone. Neither are legally protected by the 4th amendment.

If you are white and privileged dress like you are going to church and use that privilege as a buffer between anyone who might be trouble and someone who needs protecting.

99% of protests are actually nothing but shouting chants and waking peacefully along. Expect the best but prepare for the worst.

If you are scared to go to a protest, you can start by attending events in smaller towns that coincide with bigger marches. Mostly because of the weather, we chose the smaller event in the small city today, instead of the larger event in the real city -- in four hours we didn’t see a single cop. The protest we attended was led by a partnership of churches and college students, and the dominant demographic was baby boomer age white people. I’m not saying it’s impossible for them to arrest such a group, but it’s not the optics they want.

Once you’re at such an event, you’ll find plenty of information on direct action you can take -- volunteer opportunities, other protests, etc. Marching is good, but it’s not the only thing that needs doing.

A democrat majority MUST HAPPEN this year. That is the single most crucial victory needed to end the agenda of evil and hatred that the Republicans are pushing

Not only will they purge voter rolls and pass voter ID laws, but they also spread misinformation about when, how, and where to vote, and what you need to bring to do so. They actively discourage voting by any means they can imagine -- making the electorate so disgusted by the campaigns paid well for them last time. They also like to tell young people that they aren’t smart enough or educated enough to vote yet, or try to spread false messages about how staying home on voting day is a form of protest.
