This gig marks the 6th time na tumugtog kami since Kiko Machine reactivated this year, and the first time in a long time na headliner ulit kami ng isang prod.

Kasama sa spiel ni JP yung “joke” niya na “we are a new band,” pero kung tutuusin, totoo naman eh.

Hindi na ito yung extra-curricular activity namin nung nasa UP Fine Arts pa kami, yung somehow nagpatuloy, lumaki, at umabot sa isang weird but very specific level of success na “almost mainstream, just above underground.”

There’s around a 20-year gap between this reactivation and the last time we were actively doing gigs. So ngayon, nangangapa kami. Naninibago. In many ways, we really are starting over. Mas marami pa nga yung years na hindi kami magkakabanda kaysa sa years na active kaming tumutugtog eh. And during those years, ang daming levels naming pinagdaanan as friends — mataas, mababa, gitna, tagilid, pantay, complicated, at kung anu-ano pa. But maybe that’s exactly what will carry us through this new chapter.

Kung dati, hobby-hobby lang ito every weeknight or weekend, ngayon parang family gathering na. Madalas kasama na sa gigs ang loved ones, partners, and kids. Iba na yung energy, iba na yung dahilan, pero familiar pa rin. Meron na ding realization na kailangan na pala namin mag-stretching bago tumugtog.
