You know, it blows my mind that it's been so many years since I got my first real album. It was @pink's second album, Missundaztood. I'm Not Dead (Platinum Edition) was bought literally at the same time, so the two are fairly interchangeable. It was probably 2007 and I had just turned 10. Soon after, "Can't Take Me Home" was purchased and I never looked back. I was hooked on Miss Alicia Moore's beautiful Contralto vocal range. I fell in love with Beyoncé shortly after, soon discovering Etta James because of the movie, Cadillac Records. Then high school hit, I changed it up by leaning toward the defiant, triumphant sounds or the melancholy power of rock music, mostly new wave and more radio friendly sounds. Then I discovered electrónica, dark wave, and melodic EDM. @blaqkaudio really became a defining sound for me. The dance-y and androgynous flares of Culture Club paired with the dark and intricate lyrics of The Cure moved me in such a way that I then became awed by @afireinside, which is now my favorite band. The cacophony of sounds that would drill themselves into my eardrums really moved me to keep exploring and expanding. I found @theohurts of Hurts, which lended beautifully crafted synth pop sounds with artful lyrics. Switching gears, I returned back to pop with Jessie J and then back to pop-rock with Daughtry. Then moving on to more singer-songwriter sounds with Emeli Sandé and her truly artful sound, I found beauty in poetry. Then I discovered the Industrial sounds within music, the intricate layerings and the roughness within truly emotive songs. I feel like I've come to a high point within this musical renaissance, by diving head first into the depths that is @prince's discography. The funky sounds paired with interesting lyrics, relatable contexts and beautiful, yet elaborate emotions have really spoken volumes. (Before I forget, I'd like to mention that within this entire period I had discovered Tamar and Toni Braxton, CHER, The Cure, KELLY ROWLAND, Enrique Iglesias, Billy Idol, Seeming, Neon Hitch, DEPECHE MODE, MUSE, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Stone Sour and so many more.)
