Easier said than done I know but most debaters are kinder than they appear and if they toss you straight into varsity, mention it to your opponent, and especially if they’re like p high level they’ll either go slightly less Intense or try and help it be an educational round. If you’re speech, interpers are super supportive and extemp is only done in front of the judge and i Promise to you theyve heard many worse speeches. Plus first tournaments are usually a huge learning experience for every first year no matter the prep so a lot of other people will be in the same boat anyway 😣 Also basically the ‘worst’ you can do is walk in, cry, apologize, and walk out. I know people who have done that theres no shame in it, its a pretty overwhelming environment sometimes.

Also sidenote idk if you’re in speech or debate, (i was a speechie), but in debate if you get voted down for your clothes or identity by the judge im fairly? sure you can either appeal the decision or block the judge from judging you in the future. Hopefully that never happens but i’ve heard a few cases of some bs judging happening over the years

Depends really! Interp is usually more casual when it comes to type of suit or colour. They can pull of really bright and extra colours as well as more blazer-type suits and skirts for girlsLD is probably the most versatile debate event when it comes to dress code (for reasons i don't know why), I've known several girls to wear dresses with blazers, and boys usually just wear suits the rest of the debate events and extemp are pretty normal dress code, most like what you'd think of for pant or skirt suit, in plainer more dark coloursIf you want specific gender/event just hit us up in the replies!
