River Sipi which flows from the Elgon range to the Kyoga Basin into the White Nile, is a coppery brown color from the silt and volcanic deposit its pregnant with. Depositing it along the way and bringing life, richness and fertility to the people of the escarpment along the Elgon range. Hidden away in the sharply ridged cliffs and bouldered hills of Kapchorwa, the river is nested in green, vivacious fields. All around, the valley below roars with the constant hum of the falls, Sipi Falls. Late into the night, the river falls and tumbles like a giant asleep. Anything can grow here. And I mean anything. Throw the seeds abd watch them grow. But that, that very fact, means that the people have to be tough; to tame the land, to bear the weather, to be faithful to the soil as it has been to them for generations. Kapchorwa was many things, but above those things it was humbling.
