Life Color Post 13

The first photo is a post from Instagram, the second I found on the internet and the last one I took at Jessup. I follow an artist on Insta who makes art through alchemy, which I find fascinating, so I wanted to share one of my favorites.

The second photo I added because I’ve always really loved astronomy and looking at the universe because the colors are absolutely incredible and the shapes are beautiful.

The third photo I took because I was trying to relax out in the tall grass and decided to try to take a closer look at nature.

Life Color Post 12

The first two photos were taken by me and the last one is a frame from my friend’s music video. I love taking pictures of sunsets and flowers so I jump at the opportunity to snap a picture of either, especially when the colors stick out to me.

The last photo I’m drawn to specifically because of the color and composition of the photo. The color creates a smooth mood that doesn’t get boring to view.

Life Color Post 11

This post focuses on blue. The first and last pictures are connected to the art show while the middle one i just found really beautiful and dazzling.

I used the first picture to base my painting for the art show on (the final product I shall give my mom for Mother’s Day).

How do the materials used to make art influence the meaning of the work?

Materials can have a huge impact on how a work of art is perceived by the viewer. For example, the mood of a piece that is made with paint translates differently than a piece made with graphite. An artist should take this into account when deciding what feeling they want their work to convey.

Is unity necessary in an artwork?

Definitely not. Anything could be considered art, at least in the eyes of the artist. However, I feel that most artworks that have public recognition have at least one element of unity, whether with color, concept, subject, etc. Even if the work is chaotic to look at, there’s usually some part that contains unity.

Studio Project #2

For my studio project idea, I want to incorporate music into my color experiment. I was inspired during one of our classes when Tina mentioned that some artists “hear in color”, or hear music and think of colors that they feel correlate with the sounds. I’ve never actually tried to do this, so I think it could be a experience that is extremely different to what I’m used to. I was thinking about conducting while painting while listening to a song and translating the melody, vocals, and instruments into colorful strokes across a canvas with acrylic paint. I haven’t quite picked a song, but I think I want something up beat, and the colors will either be based on harmonies or just different voices/instruments. I think I want the dimensions to be relatively big so that I have room to paint in the way I want.

Life Color Post 10

With this LCP, I wanted to keep the theme of yellow/light.

The first pic I took when I was at the Point over in Sunset on campus. It wasn’t supposed to be blurry, but I actually really like the out of focus effect.

The second picture I took in my dorm room when the sunlight dropped into the room perfectly. These moments are my favorite to take pictures in because it feels so magical.

The third photo I took quite a while ago during the most beautiful golden sunset I’ve seen in Rocklin. I love the way the light hits the clouds.

And back to color chaos!

The first photo is the first photo I took with my new iPhone’s camera. I’ve always loved photography, so I was extremely excited when I saw how vibrant the colors are. The complimentary colors of the red and green are really eye catching. (Ignore my reflection in the ornament lol)

The second photo I took while my brother and I stopped at the FoodMart for our weekly Dots Discussion (in which we get Dots ice cream and talk about our lives). The orange of the sunset really stands out against the blue sky.

The third picture I took in the art studio of the toy car we drew many times during Drawing I. I thought the colors were really wacky and strange, yet they still somehow don’t look like a mess.

Life Color Post 8

This post makes me happy because it actually has a theme (unlike my other posts lol) of gold. Needless to say, I am kinda proud!

I took all of these photos on my trip to Malibu over spring break.

The first two photos I took at the Getty Villa Art Museum. The entire museum was so intricately designed so no matter where you looked there was something to look at. There was a TON of gold used as accents which drew the eye and filled me with awe. Even the ceilings were incredibly detailed! The golden flowers in the first photo on the ceiling literally made me stop and stare. The golden leaf crown in the second photo was absolutely stunning and was the purest golden hue I’d ever seen. (FYI I would completely recommend going to the Getty Villa to any artist, there’s so much history and masterful works. It’s a truly amazing experience.)

The third picture I took in KTown in LA in an alley we walked down. The golden lanterns felt peaceful and calming.

Life Color Post 7

Taken by me!

The first photo is of a strawberry smoothie I made a while ago. I thought the mixing of white and red and pink looked so cool, and there’s also some peachy oranges in there.

The middle is a photo of the snack set up in the art room. I thought the red, green and purple combination was strange and different; it kind of throws my eyes around.

The last photo I took while on a trip to Pepperdine in Malibu. The striking red flower really pops against the leafy greens in the background. I also think the raindrops have an interesting effect on the reds.

What makes an artwork good or bad?

This is a really hard to answer question. I believe it’s a combination of effort, technique, concept, and motive. There’s really no way to judge if an artwork is objectively bad, I would argue this because there are no official standards for what makes great or terrible art. This is a pretty cliche answer, but I’ll stand by it nonetheless.

Life Post 6

I took all three of these images

The first photo I took was from a few years ago when I was on a Girl Scout camping trip. The sky was absolutely gorgeous, the blue was so vibrant!

I know the second photo is strange, but I was really interested in the two opposing blue light sources and how they hit my hand.

The third photo I took because I was in love with the fluffy clouds and the gradient yellow to blue sky behind the clouds

What role does art play in our society? What role does art play in the church?

Art is everywhere in our current society, from social media to museums. Art is essential because it stimulates creativity and the flow of new ideas.

I personally feel as though art was more relevant within the church during previous centuries. When I think of art in the church, I think of older artists like Michael Angelo, but not many modern day artists come to mind. However, I think art is important in the church because it can tell stories that words can’t, which is important since Christianity itself is difficult to understand with words.
