Every step of this march to dual enrollment teaching has been hell. The cherry on top was the liaison who got thrown the responsibility and looked like she was drowning when I met her. They literally did not change the course shell like they said they would for online versus in person, so I essentially have to do it all anyway by Monday or Friday if they autopublish it and I can't unpublish. Wouldn't be a problem if I didn't fucking have actual other jobs.

also, fun fact! whitetip reef sharks in particular are SO damn cuddly with each other that they'll actively seek out a buddy or ten when they get sleepy!

it's pretty much slumber party or nothing for these guys. you won't find a whitetip sleeping alone except in the most dire and tragic of shark circumstances.

#funnily enough someone who got the campus invite and hired instead of me was a year or 2 above me in my phd program #she was impressive in school went to industry kept publishing and kept just being insanely prolific and successful with grants #but also super sweet and down to earth #when i found out who got the job I was like...yeah ok that's fair

Btw the heat *is* why we see water that's not really there, but mirages aren't exactly hallucinations so much as optical illusions:

It's just the changing density of the air refracting light weirdly, so it looks like there's a reflection of the sky on the ground, which our brains often interpret as a pool of water. It can also happen upwards instead of downwards, especially at sea, when the air is much colder near the surface and a warm front appears above it:

Which, btw, is one possible explanation for ghost ship sightings, so that's fun :)
