"We can't make our characters deeper and more serious in Witchlight" -Legends of Avantris cast Sorry, whose campaign is it? Whose characters? It's y'all's. If you want to play the characters with more depth and internal worlds, do it, fuck anyone who would have a problem with it. Y'all obviously had a blast playing Starlight and we all loved it.

IDK, I understand feeling obligated to do something because of fear of audience outcry, but there are deeper moments in Witchlight. Anyone who says the characters don't have depth wasn't paying attention to Kremy's fear of Garou, Frost's pining for companionship, or Gideon's anger about his slavery, or Gricko's woe about his mother, or Twig's complexity beneath the brownie silliness.

We won't even get into how complex and sad Torbek is under the "dumb, horny pervert" that much of the audience has flanderized him into or this would be an even longer essay post.

Anyone who says Witchlight characters don't have depth was apparently watching a different D&D podcast during episodes 41 and 46, or the end of 65, or, fuck, the end of episode 1 where the fairy dies, and they can argue with a wall so they'll have a debate opponent who can match their level of media literacy and intelligence.

As much as I find the humor, jokes, and fey curse shenanigans in Witchlight to be entertaining, the serious side of the story is very dear to me. This is especially true in certain scenes where we get a glimpse into the characters' struggles, pain, guilt, and memories.

Kremy, who despite always putting up this front of a confident salesman who doesn't give a fuck about anything, is actually a man who loves his krew a whole bunch. He's tied down by so much guilt that he thinks he'd be better off dead. Then there's Gideon, who is so caring and loving toward Twigs, despite the strong and hot-headed man he appears to be, he still has a gentle soul deep down.

Gricko is extremely overprotective of Hootsie and his friends, willing to put himself in danger for them, and he gets so angry when Kremy comes up with an idea that might hurt Torbek. And Fucking Frost overall, honestly. He was thrown into some kind of cult at a young age and never got closure after losing his parents. He's scared that companionship will hurt him and that attachments are only holding him back, yet he craves those earthly attachments so badly. He loves his friends so much that he is terrified of losing them or having them leave him.

TORBEK. FUCK. A man who has been lonely and ridiculed his whole life for being "too gross" and off-putting, who finally gets accepted to hang with friends for once, only to learn that they betrayed him and sold him out. It led to him getting tortured for YEARS. Now, he is tied to another entity in his head that could hurt his friends and loved ones if he isn't careful. He just wants to be accepted, to be part of something, and to be loved. There is so much more to be said for him and yeah honestly, he deserves his own post.
