New Earth Challenge Rules (Draft 2)
Playtesting draft 1 of my challenge rules has made me realize that I need to simplify them. Certain parts of this are too complicated to keep track of even for me, an obsessive weirdo. Here's how I'm modifying the rules (changes in bold).

THE NEW EARTH CHALLENGE (Draft 2)
(Sequel to the Space Voyage Challenge)
Your sims have just arrived on an uninhabited planet. Your goal is to increase their population to 175. In doing so, you will gradually terraform the planet and build a new society.
Starting conditions:
If starting fresh: 8 sims, 20k per sim.
If you completed the Space Voyage Challenge: Start with whatever population, funds, and inventory items you have. You may sell your ship.
Start with 4 lots on the snowy part of Mount Komorebi or in a desert world. They can be residential or community, but sims may not visit any other lots.
All lots must be off the grid, simple living, and reduce and recycle.
Split your sims into as many households as you want. Turn aging off for unplayed sims, and play each household for an equal amount of in-game time.
No selling items you obtained in live mode.
No recycling items you obtained in buy mode.
No buying food. You can only produce your own food or get it from another household.
No careers, small businesses, or school (make every day a holiday).
No hiring services
Value of all community lots must total less than $20k
No creating sims, reproducing with townies, or asking townies to move in. In fact, try to pretend townies don't exist.
Rewards:
100 potatoes: Purchase 1 bag of flour
100 plantains: Purchase 1 bag of sugar
A single household collects 100k bits and pieces, 100 microscope prints, or 100 sky prints: Unlock 1 additional lot. (No transferring prints between households.)
Population 25: Community lots can be worth up to $50k in total.
Pop 50: Sell items you got in live mode.
Pop 75: School, careers, and businesses.
Pop 100: Buy food
Pop 125: Unlimited community lot value
Pop 150: No lot challenges required
Pop 175: You win

It's going to be hard to start applying these rules partway through, but I think I'm going to allow my sims 6 total lots including the ship. I'll consolidate the 2 community lots into one and let Sarah and Charlie have their own house. After that, I'll have to earn any additional lots according to the new rules.
