Season 1 Kira..... I'm so sorry girl... You deserve the world...
I recently found out she was only 26 during season 1 and I'm only 26 right now and... yeah...
(Song: "Mandy, Do You Know Any Other Songs" by 2 Mellow)
on amok time again: they really did "spock experiences primal alien mating drive and murder fuck ritual," and didn't even play with "and this is an excuse to see our prim and proper mr spock get sensual with a lady!". like he expends ALL of his hot dominating fantasy uncontrollable lust rage energy ON KIRK. they wrote that and had ONE chance to make spock have any scandalous, carnal housewife jerk off material romance they wanted with any sexy space woman in the universe, and they chose kirk. when he does interact with a woman he throws a soup at her
thought one: yummy yummy
thought two: orange juice in my tummy
just stepped on a butterfly hope this changes things
funniest thing to ever happen was when my boyfriend put on the first episode of columbo (which i'd never seen) but he wouldn't tell me what show it was he would only say "you'll get it when he shows up." but a fun fact about the first episode of columbo is that he doesn't show up for 32 minutes and when he does, he silently walks into the room with a cigar and does a little pose and goes "hi i'm columbo."

quantum leap epsiode where sam jumps into a mob boss or gang leader and decides he's there to get everyone in his group out of the buisness. tries to find them all hobbies. "al im making great progress here with frankie, he's really taking to knitting". it is clearly not actually why he's here. every now and then al is like "yeah yeah tony is now going to become a head *slaps ziggy* head chef. still not going to stop that bridge from blowing up sam you've gotta lock in" "but i think i can get tommy into stage direction, he's got a mind for logistics and a hidden love for theater, i just need the right opportunity-" "SaM the BRIDGE is going to BLOW UP"
you will never catch me complaining about an actress on a tv show having an imperfectly concealed pregnancy or a character going on a sudden trip somewhere while her actress is on maternity leave. so many actresses (and women working in any other field) are fired, punished and pressured into making reproductive decisions for their employers' convenience & if i have to try a bit harder to suspend my disbelief then that's absolutely what i'm going to do if it means people are getting to exercise reproductive & bodily autonomy without punishment
My favorite writing of this was how Star Trek DS9 handled Nana Visitor's pregnancy. It felt out of character for her character (Kira Nerys) to get pregnant and it's the semi-utopian future, so presumably birth control works quite well and abortions are easily available. Solution: another female character gets pregnant, is injured in an emergency situation, and Kira agrees to act as surrogate. They effectively wrote this entire story line well enough, with implications for the dynamics between Kira and the biological parents, that I didn't realize until later that the actress was actually pregnant. I thought it was just an interesting plot line.
Jumping on, I personally love it because of the unique way it shows Kira’s strength and commitment to her friends. To make that kind of sacrifice, to take on that kind of burden for her friends is incredibly powerful to me. Im sure someone’s got their cynical “oh she’s been traumatized into never prioritizing herself” take but I don’t see it as a martyr complex thing at all, I see it as her compassion and willingness to go out of her way for people she cares about. And the resulting becoming part of the O’Briens’ family, accepted as Molly’s aunt and coming to live with them is genuinely beautiful to me no matter how much the show might play it for laughs. And yes, the poly ship is very fun hehe.
Lovely storytelling
My only gripe with the entire storyline - and I do mean ONLY - is that her decision would have made an amazing episode in of itself. It would have had to be filmed in the weeks immediately following her telling the producers and writers that she had a baby on the way so that she wasn't showing yet (and then held on to until she was showing to slot it into the correct part of the timeline), but the idea of being stuck on a runabout with an injured Keiko, a doctor who CAN do the procedure but has to be convinced that she fully understands the risks she is taking and have her say "Yes, actually, I do understand and fully consent, because I care about these people and so do you" would have been AMAZING.
sometimes the gay energy in supernatural is so strong the homosexuality is in the room with us. unbearable. i break out in hives. i need to be slowly boiled, okay? queerbait me with care before i have a serious allergic reaction.
SPEED LIMITS are just SUGGESTIONS!!!!! you can go much slower actually

got to season 6 in my spn rewatch and like ? wish they'd done smth more/different with the whole soulless sam thing. like, for one it didn't need to last half the season. but for two, i feel like they moved on from it pretty quickly to get back to the norm?
i feel like dean should've had to step into sam's shoes (be the empathetic one with the victims & such) for at least an episode or two while soulless sam is off fulfilling dean's typical more apathetic role (not to say dean is completely apathetic towards the people they're helping but yk compared to sam). i think seeing dean trying to do that role reversal would be interesting, especially as an insight to his character for multiple reasons. first being that he just spent the last year as functionally a civilian so he now can related on a different level to having your life disrupted by a supernatural, and we could get some of his feelings about leaving that all behind explored there. secondly, i think dean struggles more to create short-term surface-level bonds to people (like. with dean you tend to be either just acquaintances or family with no in between), unlike sam who seems to struggle to create long-term and deeper/meaningful bonds with people (he can really only get far in that regard in romantic relationships or if the other person is making a giant effort to be close to him (typically family)). so seeing dean try to do that would be interesting as revealing a bit more of that part of his personality?
more importantly, i feel like more could've been done with sam over it? they had like, one episode where he looks at what he did and is like "no i messed up here i need to make it right" but the point of that episode is not a reflection on how sam's feeling about this, but to show dean and the viewer that sam really does have his soul back. maybe i just need to watch more of season 6 rn. either way, sam has gone through life feeling like he is, deep down, impure and possibly evil. has been told throughout the last few years by multiple people that he IS going to become evil, that its innate in him and there's nothing he can do to stop it. he was meant to be the true vessel for the devil, he and lucifer have lived parallel lives. i just think they could've done um idk smth about that, maybe sam is getting memories back and yeah maybe hes a bit meaner but hey! he was also a great hunter! he saved a lot of people! and maybe (for an episode B plot) he thinks he needs to adopt more of that attitude (probably also be more like the hunter his dad wanted him to be like. less compassionate and more effective.) and at the end of the episode during their "lets talk about our feelings" scene dean can set him straight and talk to him about how important practicing that empathy is, and how it makes sam a good person. basically some comfort after 5 seasons of "hey you're lowkey evil sam..." and now get some "hey you're actually deep down a GOOD person. and that's such an intrinsic part of you that even satan himself couldn't beat it down" (bc i think it would also go with the fact sam used sheer willpower last season to defeat the devil).
oh also soulless sam should've only been like, 5 episodes.
Gah, I love Nog. I never felt more gut wrenched when he said "because I don't want to end up like my father" half crying. He knows his dad/Rom is a great engineer, but the Ferengi culture made him be of no value to their society. Nog knows he doesn't have the lobes to be a great Ferengi, but he knows he has the same talent as his father. And by him entering Starfleet, and being the very first Ferengi to do so, he wants to prove that he and Rom do have value. But the best part coming from this was Rom, being inspired by his own son, becomes less Ferengi and proves his values on his own too. I love them so much.
