on a professional level, she’s glad to be working but she’s still worried people, especially fans, are going to see through the vocal line’s best attempts and decide they need goeun after all. on top of this, seri and byungchul’s wedding gets her thinking about her own future, what she’d always thought it might look like versus what she sees it being now.

on a more personal level, later in the month, her mother contacts her for the first time since she was sixteen. she finds out after much nervousness (and, frankly, a strong hope it was because she was missed) that her eldest brother (jungwon) has two daughters, one two years old (bora) and the other born in november (sora). their mother fled for greener pastures, leaving jungwon searching for options. she’s caught up on various happenings within her family and meets her nieces.

her favourite person at her door - what more could she want? she’s taken most of today off from her personal schedules, save for the couple of hours she spent at the shared home early this morning, just for her birthday. “ah, for me? you shouldn’t have!” no, she absolutely should have. it’s obvious minhee is joking as she gratefully takes the boxes from sowon, waving her into her apartment. she points over at her sofa. “thank you, thank you! go sit down!”

minhee plops down on an armchair, and opens the second box first. “they’re so cute! i love them!” she cries, quickly taking out the succulent candles one by one, arranging them in an eclectic fashion on the coffee table. with a clap of her hands, minhee goes for the second box. now, she’s speechless, holding the tube and the bullet up close to her face, reading the names of them closely. “are these custom shades? bingle bangle and … jelly! sowonnie! you shouldn’t have, i mean it this time!” a hand comes up to her bare lips and she smiles. “i can wear one of them today … and are these socks? yay!” 

she sits back in the chair, holding her new socks and lip products on her chest, beaming wide. “lotte world sounds fun! i don’t have any plans until this evening so lotte world is perfect! i haven’t gone on rollercoasters in years, whenever we go we’re always filming something and bc won’t let me throw up in front of the cameras.” she pouts. “but it’s my birthday, i’ll vomit if i want to.”

sowon grinned, slipping off her shoes and fleeing to the sofa. she’s excited - it’s minhee day, after all! she considered herself a fairly good bandmate, but goeun’s departure put into perspective that was wasn’t necessarily as close to her members as she’s like to think. minhee was an exception, though - they were the maknae line, they’d been in lip gloss together, and they’d bonded. it was nice, not to question their friendship. it was easy with minhee.

she crossed one leg over the other, watching minhee eagerly. she was excited by the reaction to the candles, but she was eager for the reaction to the makeup - it was what she’d put the most thought and effort into, after all. she wasn’t disappointed. minhee’s delight only increased her own, smiling widely. “ they are! i thought you’d get a kick out of it. ” a burst of laughter left her lips at the sock comment.

there was something sad about kissing a decade goodbye. she wasn’t exactly the most career-minded idol, but it was hard not to look back and wonder if lipstick had done enough. minhee and hyeju had done well, but had they, as a group, done enough to justify their continued survival? or were they just coasting on their legacy - on goeun’s legacy?  it was nice, though, to be here for minhee. she was happy she’d gotten to participate in the show. her sweetest bandmate deserved the opportunity.

‘don’t do it. just keep dreaming, buddy.’ was the constant response from everyone when Sanghyun expressed his admiration to the certain individual. it had been years since he watched her for the first time on the screen, the girl with the brightest smile and the voice that stole his attention. the memory was still vivid to him that Sanghyun weirded himself out for acting like a teenage boy when her name was ringing in the air. He made a promise to himself that he would strike a conversation if there was a chance for him to meet Sowon of Lipstick, but fate had never brought them together to meet in one place. at least, not more than just a formal greeting.

until he was standing at the doorway, solely to fulfill an appointment he made for a friend to attend a little barbeque party. the figure he often saw on TV suddenly came out in a solid form, smiling at him. Sanghyun was stunned for a moment, he couldn’t process the sudden burst of teenage delusion, turning into a bliss. 

“yeah–yeah, sure. Um, I mean, okay,” he stuttered, following to where a stack of coats sprawled all over the couch. shit shit shit, what should I do?! no, be cool, dude. it’s fine. it’s just her. it’s her. Sanghyun turned around and rubbed his hands together. “Is there anything I could do to help?” he asked her, while his friends were walking back and forth to set the table for their dinner. There were many things he wanted to ask her, but Sanghyun held it back. It was a long night anyways. 

oh, and he seemed friendly! this would be fun. she’d have to make a note to have euijin add him to their groupchat, and maybe invite him to the lunar new year party they were planning (for two days after the fact, so no one would miss out on family for it). that reminded her, she’d have to pick up blank stationary for the moonhouse. 

she smiled at the offer of help - another set of hands was never a bad thing, despite her tendency to take over tasks from their hostess - including getting the door, evidently. “ if you’d be willing to help carry food out, it’d be great! i think hyunwoo got most of it, but between the two of us it couldn’t be more than a couple of trips. ” she led him to the kitchen, only a room away, and hummed a confused sort of sound. 

“ i guess she took a few out already. ” she noted, eyeing the platters of meat and vegetables on the table. “ anyway! if you take one, i’ll take the other two and you can open the door with your free hand? ” it wasn’t exactly a question, but she wasn’t the boss of him. she didn’t want to tell him what to do.
