Whatever happened to having hobbies anyway? Everything these days is all about productivity, all the time. Read more books than last year! Don’t waste any time, listen to audiobooks while in line at the grocery store! Practice yoga and mindfulness! Schedule your days and record them in your bullet journal! Keep track of your progress in everything.

Stop it. Chill. Have an evening of nothingness and don’t feel guilty about it. Look at your friends Instagram stories as they’re doing whatever it is they’re busy with and don’t feel like you’re missing out. FOMO is an illusion, that’s their life and you’re in yours. So what if they’re having a get-together at the hip new restaurant and you’re at home petting your cat. You’ve got a soft, fluffy cat and they don’t which is clearly their loss.

Last weekend I spent half the day tinkering with some circuit boards salvaged from junk electronics and didn’t accomplish a single thing, except making a mess and getting a few cuts on my fingers. I can’t brag about it, nobody else cares, and I didn’t learn anything useful. At the end of the day though, I realized I’d had a lot of fun doing it.
