A boy enters a haunted castle. The boy has two people he holds very close to his heart, a girl and another boy. He entered the castle to find that other boy, who had been missing for a very long time.
A ghost in the castle tells him that the other boy is ascending the castle, to the highest room, and if he ascends as well, the too are bound to meet each other.
The boy immediately sets off to climb the tower floors, through ghosts and phantoms of the past. As he climbs each floor, he notices he is forgetting his life, piece by piece. The castle is stealing his mind, he thinks. But no matter what, he swears he will not forget the girl or the other boy.
When he reaches the fifth floor, he is reminded of a third person, deeply close to him. A Second Girl. He is ashamed that he would ever forget her, and the ghosts chide him for being so shallow. They tell him the Second Girl is in the castle as well, and she needs his help, and that she would heartbroken to know the boy forgot about her.
He climbs the castle all the more fervently, and the castle tears deeper into his psyche. Soon he forgets all about his reasoning for braving the castle doors, the other boy he has spent so long looking for, now single mindedly obsessed with saving the Second Girl.
He finally meets with the other boy on the 7th floor, who is similarly obsessed with the Second Girl. The other boy says she is his best friend, and no one can keep him from her. The boy replies in tune, and they clash over the Second Girl, further eroding a relationship neither remembered they had together.
In their final confrontation, the other boy falls, and does not get up.
When the boy reaches the top floor, he finds her, the Second Girl, surrounded by the ghosts who had chided him through his journey. She reveals that the two had never met before this moment. That as the castle tore away his memory of the First Girl, she replaced those memories with herself. The other boy he met was nothing more than a puppet she had created. Something she made out of wood to fall in love and fight over her affection.
She reveals that she is a ghost herself, a very special one, as the person she used to be is still alive. She reveals that she is the ghost of the girl he cares for the most, and was jealous of that affection, and wanted it for herself.
The boy tells her that he has no memory of any other girl than herself.
When the other boy, the real one, finally makes his way up to the top floor of the castle, his mind unscathed, he finds the friend he had so desperately been searching for. He found his best friend in a coffin, and standing above him the ghost of a girl who was still alive.
In the coffin next to him he finds the comatose body of Donald Duck.
